Kalaketty Shivaparavathy Temple is situated in Kanamala, Azhutha, within the Kalaketty village, in proximity to Mundakkayam City, located in the Kottayam district of Kerala. The principal deity worshipped at this site is Sree Sivaparvathy.
Kalaketti is situated within a forest approximately 12 kilometers from Erumeli. The Shiva temple in this area provides facilities for bathing and sourcing fresh water for the devotees traveling to Sabarimala via the Kanana patha. The temple can be accessed from Mundakkayam road, starting from Erumeli.
The route from Mukututhara to Kanamala leads to Kalaketti. The initial entry point into the forest along the footpath to Sabarimala is at Irumpanikkara. After passing through the forest department's check post and traveling around 15 kilometers, one will arrive at Kalaketti. The origin of the name Kalaketti is rooted in a fascinating legend. It is said that after Shri Ayyappan triumphed over Mahishi, he performed the Ananda dance, during which Lord Shiva and Parvati disembarked from Shiva's vehicle, Nandikeshan.
They subsequently tied Nandikeshan to an anvil tree at that location, which is how the name Kalaketti came to be. The Malayarayan community is the custodian of this temple, which also houses deities such as Lord Vishnu, Lord Murugan, Lord Brahma, Ganesha, and Goddess Durga as subordinate deities. The primary ritual offering at this temple is the fire offering, and daily food is provided to the Ayyappans.
കാളകെട്ടി ശിവപാർവതി ക്ഷേത്രം
ശബരിമലയിലേക്കുള്ള പരമ്പരാഗത പാതയായ ‘എരുമേലി-പമ്പ’ കാനനപാതയിലെ ഒരു പ്രധാന സ്ഥലമാണ് കാളകെട്ടി. എരുമേലിയിൽ നിന്ന് ഏകദേശം 12 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെയുള്ള വനത്തിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഈ സ്ഥലത്ത്, ശബരിമല കാനനമാർഗ്ഗം പോകുന്ന ഭക്തന്മാർക്ക് വിശ്രമിക്കാനും ശുദ്ധജലം ശേഖരിക്കാനും ആവശ്യമായ സൗകര്യങ്ങൾ ശിവക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ഒരുക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു.
എരുമേലിയിൽനിന്നും മുക്കൂട്ടുതറ, മുക്കൂട്ടുതറയിൽനിന്നും കണമല, കണമലയിൽനിന്നുള്ള മുണ്ടക്കയം റോഡിൽ കാളകെട്ടി ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. ശബരിമലയിലേക്കുള്ള നടപ്പാതയിൽ ആദ്യം വനത്തിലേക്ക് പ്രവേശിക്കുന്നത് ഇരുമ്പാനിക്കര എന്ന സ്ഥലത്താണ്. അവിടെ വനം വകുപ്പിന്റെ ചെക്ക് പോസ്റ്റ് കടന്ന ശേഷം ഏകദേശം 15 കിലോമീറ്റർ യാത്ര ചെയ്താൽ കാളകെട്ടിയെന്ന സ്ഥലത്ത് എത്തിച്ചേരും.
കാളകെട്ടി എന്ന പേരിന് പിന്നിൽ ഒരു കഥ ഉണ്ട്. ശ്രീ അയ്യപ്പൻ മഹിഷിയെ നിഗ്രഹിച്ച ശേഷം ആനന്ദ നൃത്തം ആടുമ്പോൾ, അത് കാണാൻ ശിവനും പാർവതിയും ഒരുമിച്ച് ശിവന്റെ വാഹനമായ നന്ദികേശന്റെ പുറത്ത് എത്തി. അവിടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന ഒരു ആഞ്ഞിലി മരത്തിൽ നന്ദികേശനെ കെട്ടിയെന്നു പറയപ്പെടുന്നു. ഈ ഐതിഹ്യം ഈ സ്ഥലത്തിന് കാളകെട്ടി എന്ന പേര് നൽകാൻ കാരണമായതാണെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു. മലയരയന്മാർ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ ഉടമസ്ഥരാണ്.
