Kidangoor Subramanya Swami Temple is a historic Hindu temple situated in Kidangoor, close to Ayarkkunnam in the Kottayam district of Kerala.
This temple is one of the esteemed Subramanya temples in Kerala, believed to be at least 1500 years old. It is situated along the Manarcaud - Kidangoor state highway, adjacent to the banks of the Meenachil River. The temple lies approximately 2 kilometers from Kidangoor and 5 kilometers from Ayarkunnam.
Kidangoor is recognized as one of the 64 Nambudiri villages and historically marked the boundary between the Vadakkumkur and Thekkumkur kingdoms. According to legend, the idol of Subramanya emerged from the Kamandalu (a traditional oblong pot) of sage Gauna when water flowed out. The idol then flowed with the water until it reached the Vishnu shrine in Kidangoor. The temple features several deities, including Bhagavathi (Bhuvaneshvari), who is oriented to the south. Sastha shrine is located in the southwest corner of the temple complex.
Vishnu holds significant importance within the temple, known here as 'Vadakkumthevar,' with his shrine situated to the north of the Subramanya sanctum; it is believed to predate the Subramanya temple itself. Additionally, Ganesha is enshrined in a separate temple on the southwest side, facing east. This sub-temple of Kidangoor Temple was constructed relatively recently, in 1995. The temple celebrates its annual festival during the Malayalam month of Kumbham (February/March), which spans a duration of ten days. Similar to many temples in Kerala, the festivities commence with the ceremonial flag hoisting (Kodiyettu) on Karthika day.
Aarattu (holy bathing) takes place at the Chembilavu Ponkunnathu Mahadeva temple, situated along the banks of the Meenachil River. Lord Shiva, who is the presiding deity of this temple, is revered as the father of Thrikkidangoorappan. Other significant festive occasions include 'Thaipooyam' in the month of Makaram and 'Skanda Shashti.' Pilgrims from various regions visit to perform the sacred Shashtivrata on the sixth day of Amavasya.

കോട്ടയം ജില്ലയിലെ മീനച്ചിൽ താലൂക്കിൽ കിടങ്ങൂർ ഗ്രാമപഞ്ചായത്തിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന കിടങ്ങൂർ സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യസ്വാമിക്ഷേത്രം, അതിന്റെ പുരാതനത്വം കൊണ്ട് ശ്രദ്ധേയമാണ്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠ ബാലബ്രഹ്മചാരിസങ്കല്പത്തിലുള്ള സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യസ്വാമിയാണ്. കൂടാതെ, സമീപത്തുള്ള മഹാവിഷ്ണുവും ഗണപതി, അയ്യപ്പൻ, ഭുവനേശ്വരി, ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണൻ, യക്ഷിയമ്മ എന്നിവയും പ്രധാന ഉപദേവതകളായി ആരാധിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. കേരളത്തിലെ പ്രമുഖ സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യസ്വാമിക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നായ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ, പത്തുവയസ്സിന് മുകളിലുള്ള സ്ത്രീകൾക്ക് നാലമ്പലത്തിനകത്ത് പ്രവേശനം അനുവദിക്കപ്പെടുന്നില്ല, ഇത് ബ്രഹ്മചാരീഭാവത്തെ പ്രതിനിധീകരിക്കുന്നതിനാൽ ശ്രദ്ധേയമാണ്.
ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ കൂത്തമ്പലത്തിന്റെ പ്രശസ്തി വളരെ ഉയർന്നതാണ്. ഈ കൂത്തമ്പലം ഉളിയന്നൂർ പെരുംതച്ചനാണ് പണിതെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു. തെക്കോട്ട് ദർശനം നൽകുന്ന ഈ കൂത്തമ്പലത്തിൽ ഭുവനേശ്വരി-യക്ഷി പ്രതിഷ്ഠകൾ ഉണ്ട്. ഇവിടെ നിർമ്മിച്ച ഒരു തൂൺ കുറുന്തോട്ടിമരം ഉപയോഗിച്ചാണ്, ഇത് ശ്രദ്ധേയമാണ്. ഔഷധച്ചെടിയായ കുറുന്തോട്ടി ഒരു മരമായി മാറുന്നത് അത്യന്തം അത്ഭുതകരമാണ്. കുംഭമാസത്തിൽ കാർത്തിക നാളിൽ കൊടികയറി പത്താം ദിവസം മീനച്ചിലാറ്റിൽ ആറാട്ടോടുകൂടി സമാപിക്കുന്ന ഉത്സവം ഇവിടെ ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു.
കൂടാതെ, മകരമാസത്തിൽ തൈപ്പൂയം, തുലാമാസത്തിൽ സ്കന്ദഷഷ്ഠി എന്നിവയും പ്രത്യേക ദിവസങ്ങളാണ്. കേരള ഊരാണ്മ ദേവസ്വം ബോർഡിന്റെ കീഴിലാണ് ഈ മഹാക്ഷേത്രം. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യസ്വാമിയുടെ വിഗ്രഹം ഗൗണ മഹർഷി പൂജിച്ചിരുന്നുവെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ഇന്ന് ക്ഷേത്രമിരിക്കുന്ന സ്ഥലത്തിന്റെ വടക്കുഭാഗത്തുകൂടെ ഒഴുകുന്ന മീനച്ചിലാറിന്റെ ഉദ്ഭവസ്ഥാനത്ത് തപസ്സിനായി ഗൗണ മഹർഷി തന്റെ കമണ്ഡലുവിൽ സപ്തപുണ്യനദികളിൽ നിന്നുള്ള തീർത്ഥജലം ശേഖരിച്ചുവെന്ന് പറയപ്പെടുന്നു.
ഈ കമണ്ഡലുവിൽ അദ്ദേഹം യാത്രയ്ക്കിടയിൽ സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യസ്വാമിയുടെ വിഗ്രഹം സൂക്ഷിച്ചിരുന്നുവെന്നും അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ഒരിക്കൽ, അദ്ദേഹം ഇന്ന് കുടയുരുട്ടിമല എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന സ്ഥലത്ത് തപസ്സിന് എത്തുകയും കഠിനതപസ്സ് ആരംഭിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. ശ്രീരാമഭക്തനായ മഹർഷി, ശ്രീരാമചന്ദ്രന്റെ വരവിനായി മലയിൽ കഠിനതപസ്സ് അനുഷ്ഠിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.
