Kodungoor Devi Temple is a renowned religious site situated in Kodungoor, within the Kottayam district. The principal deity worshipped at this temple is Kodungooramma.
The temple's historical significance is believed to date back over 200 years. The temple was originally owned by the Madathil family before being taken over by the Travancore Devaswom. The Kodungoor Devi temple festival, widely recognized as Kodungoor Pooram, is particularly renowned. The principal celebration at the temple occurs during the Pooram Nakshatra in the month of Meenam, and the ten-day festival is especially noted for the Kavadiyattam.
Although the shrine is dedicated to the Bhagavathi, the primary deities worshipped are Keerathan and Kerathi, representing Shiva and Parvati in their Keeratha forms. The deity is oriented towards the east.
Upa Devatas honored in the temple include Ganapathy, Sastha, Nagaraja, Nagayakshi, Naga Chamundi, and two rakshasas.
The deity revered in this temple is considered the Kudumba Paradevatha of Meenachil Karthakkanmar, with the belief that the Goddess arrived here under the traditional umbrella of Meenachil Karthakkanmar. Daily evening offerings include Ada Naivedyam.
മേജർ ദേവീ ക്ഷേത്രം കൊടുങ്ങൂർ
കൊടുങ്ങൂർ ദേവീക്ഷേത്രം കോട്ടയം ജില്ലയിലെ പൊൻകുന്നത്തുനിന്ന് 8 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരു പ്രശസ്ത ക്ഷേത്രമാണ്. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠ കൊടുങ്ങൂരമ്മയാണ്, അതിന്റെ പ്രാചീനത 200 വർഷത്തിലേറെയായി കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ആദ്യം ഒരു കുടുംബത്തിന്റെ മഠമായിരുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം പിന്നീട് തിരുവിതാംകൂർ ദേവസ്വം ഏറ്റെടുത്തു.
കൊടുങ്ങൂർ ദേവീക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ഉത്സവം കൊടുങ്ങൂർ പൂരം എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്നു, മീനമാസത്തിലെ പൂരം നക്ഷത്രത്തിൽ നടക്കുന്ന പ്രധാന ഉത്സവമാണ്. 10 ദിവസത്തെ ഈ ഉത്സവം കാവടിയാട്ടത്തിന് പ്രശസ്തമാണ്. ശ്രീകോവിൽ ഒരു ഭഗവതി ആയിരുന്നെങ്കിലും, പ്രധാന ആരാധനാ മൂർത്തികൾ കീരാതനും കേരത്തിയുമാണ്, കൂടാതെ കീരാതരൂപത്തിലുള്ള ശിവനും പാർവതിയും.
കിഴക്കോട്ട് ദർശനമായാണ് പ്രതിഷ്ഠ. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ഉപദേവതകൾ ഗണപതി, ശാസ്താവ്, നാഗരാജാവ്, നാഗയക്ഷി, നാഗ ചാമുണ്ഡി, രണ്ട് രക്ഷകൾ എന്നിവയാണ്. മീനച്ചിൽ കാർത്തക്കൻമാരുടെ കുടുംബ പരദേവതയാണ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠ. മീനച്ചിൽ കാർത്തക്കൻമാരുടെ പരമ്പരാഗത കുടയുടെ മുകളിലാണ് ദേവി ഇവിടെ എത്തിയതെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു. ദിവസവും വൈകുന്നേരം അട നൈവേദ്യം സമർപ്പിക്കുന്നു.
