Sree Dharmashastha Temple in Poonjar is located along the banks of the Meenachil River in Poonjar, Kottayam. This temple was constructed by the Pandya King Manavikrama Pandyan.
Dharma Shasta Temple stands out as one of the rare temples in Kerala where the chuttuvillakku, or the lamps encircling the temple's outer wall, is intricately carved from stone rather than the more commonly used wood. This unique feature can be attributed to the workers who accompanied Manavikrama Pandyan, all of whom hailed from Tamil Nadu, a region where wood was limited but stone was plentiful.
Consequently, these artisans were skilled in the art of stone carving. In addition to the chuttuvillakku, stone carvings are also present in temples associated with the Poonjar Royal Family. Inside the temple, one can find wooden carvings that illustrate various epics and legends. The temple's annual ulsavam takes place during the month of Makaram, featuring a series of rituals and events spread over eight days.
A highlight of the festival is the Aada Vazhivaadu, a special offering consisting of a sweet blend of coconut and jaggery, wrapped in banana leaves and steam-cooked in a traditional fire stove before being presented to the deity.

പൂഞ്ഞാറിൽനിന്ന് 2.3 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെ, ഈരാറ്റുപേട്ട - പനച്ചിപ്പാറ റൂട്ടിൽ, ദേശാധിപനും, കലിയുഗവരദനും, ആശ്രിതവത്സലനുമായ പൂഞ്ഞാർ കോയിക്കൽ ശ്രീധർമ്മശാസ്താവ് കുടികൊള്ളുന്നു. ഇവിടെ വേദ ശാസ്താവ് അല്ലെങ്കിൽ വിദ്യാകാരകനായ ശാസ്താവ് എന്ന സങ്കൽപ്പത്തിൽ ആണിവിടെ ശ്രീ ധർമ്മ ശാസ്താവ്.
ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് ഏകദേശം ആയിരം വർഷത്തിലധികം പഴക്കം ഉള്ളതായി കരുതപ്പെടുന്നു. കയ്യിൽ വേദ ഗ്രന്ഥം കൈവശം വച്ച അത്യപൂർവ്വമായ രൂപമാണ് പൂഞ്ഞാർ കോയിക്കൽ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ശ്രീധർമ്മശാസ്താവ്.
മകരത്തിലെ അനിഴം നക്ഷത്രത്തിൽ കൊടിയേറ്റും തിരുവുത്സവവും ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു. മീനച്ചിലാറ്റിൽ ഭഗവാന്റെ തിരുവറാട്ട് നടക്കുന്നു. മണ്ഡലകാലത്ത് പ്രത്യേക പൂജകൾക്കൊപ്പം കളമെഴുത്തും പാട്ടും അയ്യപ്പനു മുന്നിൽ നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു.
