ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം കോയിക്കൽ ദേവസ്വത്തിൻറെ പരിധിയിൽ വരുന്ന ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലൊന്നാണ്. പൂഞ്ഞാറിലെ ഏറ്റവും പഴക്കമുള്ള ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നായ കൊട്ടാരം ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണ ക്ഷേത്രം, ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണഭക്തനായ പൂഞ്ഞാർ രാജകുടുംബത്തിലെ ഒരു രാജകുമാരൻ പണികഴിപ്പിച്ചതായി വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു. പൂഞ്ഞാർ ടൗണിൽനിന്ന് ഏകദേശം 1.8 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം, കോയിക്കൽ ദേവസ്വത്തിൻറെ നിയന്ത്രണത്തിലാണെന്ന് അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു.
