Sree Dharma Shastha & Subrahmanya Temple is a historic temple located in Kumarakom.
Subrahmanya Temple holds the distinction of being the first temple in Kumarakom, having been built under the directives of the Vadakkumkore king approximately 1800 years ago. According to local legends, the king experienced a dream during a pause in his travels at the site of the temples, where he sensed the presence of Lord Subrahmanya.
As a result, he commissioned the construction of a temple featuring a pavilion carved from a single stone. Thaippooyam is the principal festival celebrated at this location, occurring in the Malayalam month of Makaram, which typically falls in February. The festival's highlight is the ritual procession of devotees carrying kavadi. The Sree Dharma Sastha Temple is thought to be approximately 1200 years old, with the deity being Sastha, also known as Ayyappan.
The temple's main festival takes place during the month of Makaram (January/February), and it includes musical rituals such as the Udukku pattu and the Villadichan pattu. Notably, both temples are constructed within a shared compound wall.

ഐതിഹ്യങ്ങൾ പ്രകാരം, രാജാവ് ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങൾ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന സ്ഥലത്തേക്ക് യാത്ര ചെയ്യുമ്പോൾ ഒരു സ്വപ്നത്തിൽ സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യന്റെ സാന്നിധ്യം അനുഭവിച്ചുവെന്നാണ് പറയുന്നത്. അതിന്റെ ഫലമായി, ഒറ്റക്കല്ലിൽ നിർമ്മിച്ച മണ്ഡപമുള്ള ഉള്ള ക്ഷേത്രം പണിയാൻ അദ്ദേഹം ഉത്തരവിട്ടു.
തൈപ്പൂയം ഈ പ്രദേശത്തിന്റെ പ്രധാന ഉത്സവമാണ്. ഇത് മലയാള മാസമായ മകരത്തിൽ ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു. കാവടിയേറുന്ന ഭക്തരുടെ ആചാരപരമായ ഘോഷയാത്രയാണ് ഈ ഉത്സവത്തിന്റെ മുഖ്യ ആകർഷണം.
ശ്രീ ധർമ്മ ശാസ്താ ക്ഷേത്രം ഏകദേശം 1200 വർഷം പഴക്കമുള്ളതായി കരുതപ്പെടുന്നു.
ശാസ്താവോ അയ്യപ്പനോ എന്നത് ഇവിടെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠ ചെയ്ത deity ആണ്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ഉത്സവം മകര മാസത്തിലാണ് നടക്കുന്നത്. ഉത്സവത്തോടനുബന്ധിച്ച് ഉടുക്ക് പാട്ട്, വില്ലടിച്ചാൻ പാട്ട്, ശാസ്താംപാട്ട് തുടങ്ങിയ സംഗീത ചടങ്ങുകൾ അരങ്ങേറുന്നു.
