Located in Kottayam, Kerala, the Sree Sathrughana Swamy Temple is the sole temple devoted to Lord Shatrughna. This temple is an integral part of the Nalambalam.
For centuries, individuals in Kerala have sought relief from hardships and ailments by visiting the 'four temples' dedicated to Lord Sri Rama, Lord Lakshmana, Lord Bharatha, and Lord Shathrughna, the revered sons of the great King Dasharatha, during the month of Karkkidakam (July-August). The pilgrimage commences at the Lord Srirama Temple in Ramapuram.
Subsequently, devotees proceed to the Sri Lakshmana Temple at Koodappulam, the Sri Bharatha Temple at Amanakara, and the Sri Shathrughna Temple at Methiri, where they engage in worship. The tradition concludes with a return to the Sri Rama Temple before noon, marking the completion of the pilgrimage. The Nalambalam Pilgrimage culminates at this unique temple, which is the final destination for visitors. Each year, there is a significant influx of pilgrims eager to complete this sacred journey.
The term "Melthirivu" in Malayalam translates to 'a turn above' or 'the western side,' which subsequently became the name of the locality. Within a serene and tranquil setting, Lord Shathrughna is enshrined here, accompanied on his right by another temple dedicated to Goddess Porkkali, the ancestral deity of the Kondamaruku Mana, a prominent Namboodiri family.
This family currently oversees all temple operations. To the east of the Shathrughna Temple lies the 'Moolasthanam' of Porkkali Devi. The Shathrughna temple, constructed from rock, features a square design that extends to its upper roof. Until noon, the deity is in the 'Shathrughna Bhava,' transitioning to the Santhanagopala Bhava in the evening. Additionally, Lord Siva is present as a sub-deity, depicted with Unniganapathi resting on his hip.

കോട്ടയം ജില്ലയിൽ പാലായിൽ നിന്ന് ഏകദേശം 17 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെ രാമപുരത്തിനടുത്ത് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പ്രശസ്തവും പുരാതനവുമായ ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് മേതിരി ശത്രുഘ്നസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം. ജീവിതത്തിലെ ദുരിതങ്ങൾക്കും രോഗങ്ങളിലേക്കുള്ള രക്ഷ നേടുന്നതിനായി കർക്കിടക (ജൂലായ്-ആഗസ്റ്റ്) മാസത്തിൽ ദശരഥപുത്രന്മാരായ ശ്രീരാമൻ, ഭരതൻ, ലക്ഷ്മണൻ, ശത്രുഘ്നൻ എന്നിവരുടെ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലേക്ക് നടത്തുന്ന തീർഥാടനമാണ് നാലമ്പല യാത്ര.
നാലമ്പല തീർത്ഥാടനത്തിന് പ്രശസ്തമായ സ്ഥലങ്ങൾക്കുള്ളിൽ കോട്ടയം ജില്ലയിലെ രാമപുരം ദേശത്ത് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന രാമപുരം ശ്രീ രാമസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം, അമനകര ശ്രീ ഭരതസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം, കൂടപ്പുലം ലക്ഷ്മണസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം, മേതിരി ശത്രുഘ്നസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം എന്നിവ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നു. തീർത്ഥാടനം ആരംഭിക്കുന്നത് ശ്രീ രാമസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ നിന്നാണ്. ലക്ഷ്മണ സ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം, ഭരത സ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം, ശത്രുഘ്നസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിൽ ദർശനം നടത്തി, പിന്നീട് ശ്രീരാമ സ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലേക്ക് തിരികെ എത്തി ഭഗവാൻ ശ്രീരാമചന്ദ്രനും ഹനുമാൻ സ്വാമിയുടെയും അനുഗ്രഹം സ്വീകരിച്ച് മടങ്ങേണ്ടതാണ്.
ഉച്ചയ്ക്ക് മുമ്പ് ഈ ദർശനക്രമം പൂർത്തിയാക്കേണ്ടതാണ്. മേടമാസത്തിലെ രോഹിണി ആറാട്ട് ഉത്സവം ആറു ദിവസങ്ങളോളം ആഘോഷിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു, കൂടാതെ കർക്കിടക മാസത്തിലെ നാലമ്പല ദർശനവും ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ചടങ്ങുകളാണ്. കർക്കിടക മാസത്തിൽ (നാലമ്പല ദർശന മാസമായ രാമായണമാസം) ഒഴികെയുള്ള കാലയളവിൽ, ദർശന സമയം രാവിലെ 5.00 മുതൽ 10.00 വരെയും, വൈകുന്നേരം 5.30 മുതൽ 7.00 വരെയും ആണ്. കർക്കിടക മാസത്തിൽ, ദർശന സമയം രാവിലെ 5.00 മുതൽ ഉച്ചക്ക് 12.00 വരെ നീണ്ടുനിൽക്കുന്നു. കോട്ടയം – പാലാ – രാമപുരം വഴിയും, എംസി റോഡിൽ കൂത്താട്ടുകുളത്തിൽ നിന്നും അമനകര വഴിയും ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെത്താൻ സാധിക്കും.
