Morkulangara Devi Temple is a renowned Hindu temple located in the Kottayam District of Kerala, India. It is a significant place of worship dedicated to Goddess Devi.
Morkulangara Devi Temple is renowned for its deity, which stands at an impressive height of over 6 feet. According to legend, the Goddess in this temple was consecrated here after vanquishing the demon Darika. The temple is highly revered among devotees, and one of its striking features is the tall palm tree standing directly in front of the sanctum sanctorum, facing the Devi idol.
The temple’s major festival is Meena Bharani, celebrated during March–April on the Bharani star in the Malayalam month of Meenam (15 March – 14 April). This grand three-day festival attracts a large number of devotees. A significant aspect of the temple is its sacred pond, which plays a vital role in the Aarattu ceremony of the Major Vazhappally Shiva Temple. During the 10-day festival of the Shiva temple, the idol of Lord Shiva is ceremoniously dipped in this pond as part of the purification ritual.
The procession from the Vazhappally Shiva Temple reaches Morkulangara Devi Temple, where the Aarattu ceremony is performed with great devotion.
The temple is managed by the Travancore Devaswom Board, and the most auspicious days for devotees to visit are Tuesdays and Fridays.
മോർക്കുളങ്ങര ശ്രീ ഭഗവതിക്ഷേത്രം, വാഴപ്പള്ളി
കോട്ടയം ജില്ലയിലെ ചങ്ങനാശ്ശേരിയിൽ വാഴപ്പള്ളിയിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പുരാതന ഭദ്രകാളി ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് മോർക്കുളങ്ങര ശ്രീ ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രം. വാഴപ്പള്ളി കിഴക്കുംഭാഗത്ത് എം.സി.റോഡിൽ നിന്ന് ഏകദേശം ഒരു കിലോമീറ്റർ കിഴക്കോട്ട്, ചങ്ങനാശ്ശേരി ബൈപ്പാസിനരികിലാണ് ഈ ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്.
വാഴപ്പള്ളിയിൽ നാലു ദിക്കിലുമുള്ള ഭദ്രകാളി ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ കിഴക്കൻ ദിക്കിലുള്ളത് മോർക്കുളങ്ങര ക്ഷേത്രമാണ്.
ദാരികാസുരനുമായി യുദ്ധത്തിൽ ഏർപ്പെട്ട പോർക്കലി ദേവിയാണ് ഇവിടെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠ. പോർക്കലി ദേവിയുടെ കര പോർക്കലി കര എന്നായി അറിയപ്പെട്ടു, പിന്നീട് അതിന് മോർക്കുളങ്ങര എന്ന രൂപമാറ്റം സംഭവിച്ചു. ടിപ്പുവിന്റെ പടയോട്ടക്കാലത്ത്, വടക്കൻ കേരളത്തിലെ കോട്ടയം രാജവംശത്തിലെ ഒരു ശാഖയായ തെക്കുംകൂറിലെ ഒരു വിഭാഗം വാഴപ്പള്ളിയിലേക്ക് കുടിയേറുകയായിരുന്നു.
അന്നത്തെ തെക്കുംകൂർ രാജാവ്, ഈ കുടുംബത്തിന് പൂവക്കാട്ടുചിറയുടെ പടിഞ്ഞാറു ഭാഗത്ത് സ്ഥിരതാമസം അനുവദിക്കുകയും, അവർക്കായി രണ്ടു കോവിലകങ്ങൾ പണിതീർത്ത് നൽകുകയും ചെയ്തു.
ഈ കോവിലകങ്ങൾ കോട്ടയത്തു മഠം എന്നും നീരാഴിക്കെട്ട് എന്നും അറിയപ്പെട്ടു. കോട്ടയത്തു രാജകുടുംബത്തിന്റെ പരദേവതയായിരുന്ന മുഴക്കുന്നു മലയിലെ ശ്രീ പോർക്കലീ ദേവിയെ നിത്യദർശനം ചെയ്ത് പൂജിക്കാൻ അവർ വാഴപ്പള്ളിയിൽ ഒരു ക്ഷേത്രം പണിതുയർത്തി പ്രതിഷ്ഠ നടത്തി.
