Pakkil Sree Dharmasastha Temple is situated approximately 7 kilometers from Kottayam Railway Station. This temple is one of the eight sacred sites founded by Parasurama, the mythical progenitor of Kerala.
The principal deity of the temple is Sastha, who is oriented towards the east. The idol is depicted in a seated padmasana position. The secondary deities honored within the temple are Malanadu Bhagavathy and Nagarajavu. An annual festival lasting ten days is celebrated at the temple, culminating in Arattu on the Uthram nakshatra during the month of Meenam.
Another significant celebration is the Sankranti Vanibham, which takes place on the first day of the Karkidakam month, also known as Ramayana masam. Pakkil Dharmasastha serves as the paradevata for the Thekkumkoor royal family. Initially, the temple was modest in size, but it was later expanded by the Thekkumkoor kings. The Kalari students from Thekkumkoor traditionally performed their inaugural presentation at this temple. Additionally, the Alangad Erumeli Petta Sangham is welcomed at the temple during the Makaravilakku festival.
പാക്കിൽ ശ്രീ ധർമ്മശാസ്താ ക്ഷേത്രം
പാക്കിൽ ശാസ്താവിന്റെ ക്ഷേത്രം, കോട്ടയം ജില്ലയിലെ നാട്ടകം പഞ്ചായത്തിലെ പാക്കിൽ ഗ്രാമത്തിൽ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന മഹത്തായ ദേവാലയമാണ്. ബ്രഹ്മാവ് തൻറെ ഹോമകുണ്ഡത്തിൽനിന്ന് ശാസ്താവിന്റെ ബിംബം ഉദ്ഭവിപ്പിക്കുകയും അഗ്നിദേവന്റെ കൈകളിൽ ഏൽപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. അഗ്നിദേവൻ ഇത് പരശുരാമനു കൈമാറി, യഥാസ്ഥാനത്തിൽ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിക്കാൻ നിർദ്ദേശിച്ചു. പരശുരാമൻ പാക്കിൽ പ്രദേശത്തെത്തിയപ്പോൾ ഇവിടെ തന്നെ ബിംബം പ്രതിഷ്ഠിക്കാൻ തീരുമാനിച്ചു.
എന്നാൽ, ബിംബം സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യാൻ തയ്യാറാകാതിരുന്നപ്പോൾ പാക്കനാർ എന്ന ദിവ്യപുരുഷനും ഭാര്യയും അവിടെ എത്തി ബിംബം അടക്കി “ഇവിടെ പാർക്ക്” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ഇതോടെ ബിംബം ഉറച്ചു, ഈ പ്രദേശം “പാക്കിൽ” എന്ന് അറിയപ്പെടാൻ തുടങ്ങി. ശാസ്താവിന്റെ ദിവ്യപ്രത്യക്ഷം ലഭിച്ച പാക്കനാർ, ആണ്ടിൽ ഒരിക്കൽ കർക്കടക സംക്രാന്തിയുടെ ദിവസം പാക്കിൽ എത്തി ദർശനം നടത്തുമെന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു.
ഈ ആചാരത്തിന്റെ ഓർമ്മയായി ഇന്ന് കർക്കടക സംക്രാന്തി ദിനത്തിൽ പാക്കിലിൽ വ്യാപാരമേള നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. ശബരിമല ശാസ്താവുമായി അടുപ്പമുള്ള ഈ ദേവാലയത്തിൽ മകരസംക്രാന്തി ദിനത്തിൽ ദർശനം നടത്താൻ നിരവധി ആളുകൾ എത്തുന്നു. പ്രദേശവാസികൾ ശാസ്താവിനെ തങ്ങളുടെ ദേശപരദേവതയായി ആരാധിക്കുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ഉത്സവങ്ങൾ സംഘടിപ്പിക്കാൻ ഭക്തജനങ്ങളും ദേവസേവകന്മാരും പ്രധാന പങ്കുവഹിക്കുന്നു.
