Panamattam Bhagavathi temple is a historic sanctuary situated in Panamattom, close to Koorali in the Kottayam district of Kerala.
The shrine is devoted to both Shiva and Goddess Bhadrakali, with each deity holding equal significance. The temple's annual festival, renowned for its Padayani celebration, takes place on the day of Makayiram nakshatra during Meena Masam (March - April). Additionally, Maha Shivratri, celebrated in Kumbha Masam (February - March), is another significant festival observed at this location.
Shiva is venerated in this location as Anthimahakalan, with Goddess Parvati and the Nagas also being integral to the worship practices.
Meena Pooram stands out as another significant festival celebrated here. The temple features two distinct sreekovils dedicated to Shiva and Goddess Kali. The complex includes a chuttambalam, a namaskara mandapam, a kodimaram, and a pond.
The temple's annual festival is renowned for the ezhunellippu of the thidambu of Bhagavathi, which is paraded atop a richly adorned elephant, accompanied by traditional melam music. Additionally, Padayani and various folk arts are integral components of the annual celebrations. Mahashivratri festival is particularly noted for its abhishekams and other rituals associated with Shiva worship. Other significant festivals observed at the temple include Navratri, Ashtami, Mahanavami, and Vidyarambham. Thrikarthika festival during the Vrischika Masam also holds considerable importance in this context.
പനമറ്റം ശ്രീ ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രം
കോട്ടയം ജില്ലയിലെ എളംകുളത്തുനിന്ന് 2.6 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെയായി സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പനമറ്റം ഗ്രാമത്തിൽ 800 വർഷം മുമ്പ് സ്ഥാപിതമായ പൗരാണിക ആരാധനാകേന്ദ്രമാണ് പനമറ്റം ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രം. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠയായ പനമറ്റത്തമ്മ (ഭദ്രകാളി) കൂടാതെ, കിരാതമൂർത്തിയായി മഹാദേവനും കിരാത ഭാവത്തിൽ ശ്രീ പർവ്വതിയുമാണ് ഇവിടെ ദർശിക്കാനാവുന്നത്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ഭദ്രകാളിക്ക് കൂടുതൽ പ്രാധാന്യം നൽകുന്നു. പടവുകൾ കയറി ക്ഷേത്ര സന്നിധിയിൽ എത്തുമ്പോൾ, രണ്ട് ശ്രീകോവിലുകളോടുകൂടിയ പ്രധാന ക്ഷേത്രം കാണാം.
രണ്ട് ശ്രീകോവിലുകൾക്കിടയിൽ ഒരു ദാരു രൂപം കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. പനമറ്റം ഭഗവതിക്ഷേത്രം പാണ്ഡവരുടെ വനവാസത്തിന്റെ ഐതിഹ്യവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട ഒരു പ്രധാന കേന്ദ്രമാണ്. നവരാത്രി ആഘോഷ സമയത്ത് പാണ്ഡവർ വഞ്ചിമല, പനമറ്റം പ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ പരാശക്തിയെ ഭജിച്ചുവെന്നു പറയപ്പെടുന്നു. പുരാതനകാലത്ത് ഭഗവതിചൈതന്യം സ്ഥാപിതമായ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ, പിന്നീട് കിരാതമൂർത്തി ഭാവത്തിലുള്ള ഉമാമഹേശ്വരന്മാരും പ്രതിഷ്ഠിക്കപ്പെട്ടതായി പഴമക്കാർ പറയുന്നു.
മീനപ്പൂരമാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ പ്രധാന ഉത്സവം, കൂടാതെ ഉത്സവനാളിൽ പടയണി പ്രധാനമായും നടക്കുന്നു. നവരാത്രി ദിവസങ്ങളിൽ ദേവിഭാഗവത നവാഹം ഭക്തിപുരസ്സരം നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. ദുർഗാഷ്ടമിയിൽ പൂജവെയ്പും, വിജയദശമിനാളിൽ വിദ്യാരംഭവുമുണ്ട്. ഈ രണ്ടു ഗണപതിമാരുടെയും തുമ്പിക്കൈ വലതുവശത്തേക്ക് തിരിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ പൂർവ്വിക ഉടമസ്ഥരായ ഊരുമഠത്തിലെ തമ്പുരാന്റെ മഠത്തിൽ ഉപാസിച്ചിരുന്ന ദുർഗ്ഗാദേവിയെ ഇവിടെ വടക്കു ഭാഗത്ത് പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. കുടുംബവും സമൂഹവും ഐക്യമായിരിക്കാനുള്ള ഉദ്ദേശ്യത്തോടെ ഇവിടെ പാൽപായസ നിവേദ്യം സമർപ്പിക്കുന്നു. മീനപ്പൂരത്തോടനുബന്ധിച്ചുള്ള മീനപ്പൂരമഹോത്സവം ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ഉത്സവമാണ്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ഒരു പ്രധാന ആചാരമാണ് പടയണി.
