Thevalakkattu Sree Dhanwanthari Temple, located in Kulasekharamangalam near Vaikom in Kottayam district, is a 400-year-old temple dedicated to Lord Dhanwanthari, the divine physician and an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
Situated on the banks of the Muvattupuzha River, the temple is revered for its spiritual significance and is visited by devotees seeking blessings for health and well-being. Temples with Dhanwanthari idol installations are rare, and those where he is the presiding deity are even rarer, making this temple highly unique. Sree Dhanwanthari is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, who is part of the Hindu trinity and is believed to oversee the maintenance of the universe. According to Hindu Puranas, Sree Dhanwanthari emerged from the Palazhi (Ocean of Milk) carrying the Amruth Kumbh (nectar of immortality) during the churning of the ocean by the Devas (gods) and Asuras (demons), seeking a remedy for the senility caused by Maharshi Durvasa's curse.
In meditation, Sree Dhanwanthari is depicted as a dark-complexioned, four-handed deity holding a Shankha (divine conch), Chakra (discus), a bowl of Amruth, and a Jalooka (leech), symbolizing the Ayurvedic practice of blood purification.

കോട്ടയം ജില്ലയിലെ വൈക്കത്തുള്ള കുലശേഖരമംഗലത്ത് സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന, 400 വർഷത്തിലേറെ പഴക്കമുള്ള പുരാതന ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് തേവലക്കാട് ശ്രീ ധന്വന്തരി ക്ഷേത്രം. കേരളത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ധന്വന്തരി മൂർത്തി പ്രതിഷ്ഠയുള്ള ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നായ ഇതിൽ, ആയുർവേദത്തിൻറെ ദൈവമായ ശ്രീ ധന്വന്തരിയെ പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠയായി ആരാധിക്കുന്നു.

കർക്കിടക മാസത്തിൽ ആയൂർവേദചികിത്സ ആരംഭിക്കുന്നതിനു മുൻപ്, ധന്വന്ത്രിയുടെ അനുഗ്രഹത്തിനായി പ്രാർത്ഥിക്കുന്ന അനുഷ്ഠാനം വൈദ്യന്മാർ ആചരിക്കുന്ന പതിവ് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ഹൈന്ദവവിശ്വാസപ്രകാരം, ധന്വന്ത്രിയെ ആരാധിച്ചാൽ രോഗങ്ങൾ അകന്ന് ആരോഗ്യവും ദീർഘായുസും ലഭിക്കും.
400 വർഷത്തിലേറെ പഴക്കമുള്ള ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം വടക്കൻ കേരളത്തിൽ നിന്ന് കുടിയേറിയ തേവലക്കാട്ട് കുടുംബത്തിന്റെ പരിപാലനത്തിലാണ്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ നാലമ്പലത്തിനുള്ളിൽ ഗണപതി, ഹനുമാൻ എന്നിവരുടെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠകളുണ്ട്, കൂടാതെ പുറത്തുവശത്ത് രക്തേശ്വരി, ഭഗവതി, വലിയമ്മാവൻ എന്നിവരുടെ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളും നിലകൊള്ളുന്നു. നാലമ്പലത്തിന്റെ വലതുവശത്തുള്ള ക്ഷേത്രക്കിണറിലെ വെള്ളം മാത്രം നൈവേദ്യങ്ങൾ തയ്യാറാക്കാൻ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു, ഇതിന് ഔഷധഗുണങ്ങളുണ്ടെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു, കൂടാതെ എല്ലാ ഋതുക്കളിലും ശുദ്ധമായി നിലനിൽക്കുന്നു.
