Thiruvenkatapuram Sree Mahavishnu Temple is among the rapidly expanding temples in central Travancore. It is situated in Vazhappally, to the north of Changanassery town in Kottayam district.
Sri Thiruvenkidapuresan is an idol that was brought and revered by foreign Brahmins in ancient times. Although it bears resemblance to Chaturbahu and Sri Guruvayoorappan, depicted with Shankha, Chakra, Gada, and Padma, it was worshiped by foreign Brahmins within the framework of Tirupati Venkatachalapathy.
Eventually, the temple came under the jurisdiction of the Thekkumkur dynasty, during which it flourished and gained significant prominence.
It is said that a king from the Chembakassery family acquired the temple from the ruler of Thekkumkoor and bestowed the Thiruvenkidapuram Varyam to the ancestral Acharyas as a form of Gurudakshina. Over time, following the passing of these Acharyas, the former temple residents from Manikandhapuram regained control of the temple and its associated properties.
Centuries later, a devastating fire ravaged the temple, leaving only the five-storied structure of the shrine and the mandapam intact. Consequently, the temple and its courtyard suffered extensive damage, and the lights were removed.
On April 22, 1996, the deities of Lord Vishnu and his associated deities were celebrated in May under the star Makairam. The principal festival of the temple is the Dedication Day, which occurs during the Makairam Nakshatra in the month of Medam.
The temple is also recognized as the site where Krishnanattam has been performed continuously since the first Dedication Day of Thiruvenkidapuresan. This performance is conducted by Guruvayoor Kshetrakalanilayam.
The sight of the iconic and exquisite idol of Thiruvenkatapuresa evokes profound waves of devotion and self-awareness within the devotee. The indescribable experience felt by the devotee upon witnessing the radiant and beautiful idol during the Deeparadhana, amidst an atmosphere rich with the vibrations of mantras, bells, chants, and camphor, is akin to the direct vision of Yogeshwara Vaikunthanathan.
തിരുവെങ്കിടപുരം ശ്രീ മഹാവിഷ്ണു ക്ഷേത്രം
ചങ്ങനാശ്ശേരി പട്ടണത്തിന്റെ വടക്കുവശത്ത് വാഴപ്പള്ളിയിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് തിരുവെങ്കടപുരം ക്ഷേത്രം. തിരുവിതാംകൂർ ദേവസ്വം ബോർഡിന്റെ കീഴിലുള്ള പരശുരാമൻ പ്രതിഷ്ഠയുള്ള പ്രശസ്തമായ വാഴപ്പള്ളി ശ്രീ മഹാദേവർ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ നിന്ന് 400 മീറ്റർ കിഴക്കായി, പടിഞ്ഞാറ് ദർശനമായി ശ്രീ മഹാദേവനോട് അഭിമുഖമായാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്.
നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകളായി തരിശായി കിടന്നിരുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രവും അതിന്റെ സമീപഭൂമിയും കേരള ക്ഷേത്രസംരക്ഷണ സമിതിയുടെ കൈയിൽ 1996-ൽ നവീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ടു. തിരുവെങ്കടപുരേശന്റെ അനുഗ്രഹം അനുഭവിക്കുന്ന ഭക്തരുടെ എണ്ണം വളരെ കൂടുതലാണ്. അതിനാൽ, ഈ പുണ്യക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ദർശനത്തിനെത്തുന്ന ഭക്തരുടെ എണ്ണം ദിവസേന വർധിച്ചുവരികയാണ്.
