Velloor Perunthatta Siva Temple is situated in Velloor, in proximity to Thalayolaparambu within the Kottayam district.
The temple's principal deity is Shiva, enshrined in a distinct sanctum sanctorum oriented towards the east. It is widely regarded that this temple is among the 108 Shiva temples in Kerala, established by the sage Parasurama in honor of Shiva. Furthermore, it is recognized as one of the oldest Shiva temples within the Kottayam District.
Shivalinga idol situated atop the hill in Vellore is oriented towards the east. The current temple was constructed adjacent to the ancient structure, which is thought to have been destroyed by fire. This historic Shiva temple was severely damaged in a blaze and required a complete reconstruction. The principal festival celebrated at this temple is Mahashivratri, while Mondays are regarded as particularly favorable for offering prayers.
Additionally, Pradosham is recognized as another significant occasion at the temple. According to local historical accounts, the temple was originally associated with Chalapurathu Mana. The temple also features sub-deities including Ganapati, Ayyappan, and Sri Krishna.
വെള്ളൂർ പെരുന്തട്ട് മഹാദേവ ക്ഷേത്രം
കോട്ടയം ജില്ലയിൽ വെള്ളൂർ എന്ന ചെറിയ ഗ്രാമത്തിൽ പെരുന്തട്ട മഹാദേവക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. പരശുരാമൻ ശിവലിംഗം സ്ഥാപിച്ച 108 ശിവക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഇത് ഒന്നാണെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു.
വെള്ളൂരിലെ കുന്നിന്റെ മുകളിൽ കിഴക്കു ദർശനമായാണ് ഈ ശിവലിംഗത്തിന്റെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠ. നിലവിലുള്ള ക്ഷേത്രം അടുത്തിടെ പണിതീർത്തതാണ്. പഴയ കാലത്ത് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന ക്ഷേത്രം അഗ്നിക്കിരയായതായി കരുതപ്പെടുന്നു. ഉപദേവന്മാർ ഗണപതി, അയ്യപ്പൻ, ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണൻ എന്നിവരാണ്.
