The Velloothuruthy Bhagavathy Temple serves as an important place of worship situated in Kuzhimattom, Kottayam.
Vellathuruthi Kavilamma serves as a significant pilgrimage site where mythology intertwines with history. Historical accounts suggest that the temple dates back over 800 years. The deity Kodungalluramma, associated with Bhadrakali, is enshrined in Velluthuruthy Kavil.
In addition to the revered mother, the temple also honors several other deities, including Ganapati, Lord Shiva, Yakshi, Anamarutha, Rakteshwari, Pazhukkachattan, Nagaraja, and Nagayakshi. On Kumbhabharani, the festival dedicated to the Goddess, devotees from around the globe gather to bring Kumbhakudam for the anointing of the mother.
Kumbhakuda Ghoshayatra is a vibrant and devotional celebration marked by the presence of the mother, featuring rituals of vratasuddhi, intricate dance steps, and the chanting of the Devi Sarana mantra. The "Kodiyettu" ceremony occurs on Meenabharani, culminating in the tenth day with the grand celebration of Arattu Mahalsavam. വെള്ളത്തുരുത്തിക്കാവിലമ്മയുടെ സന്നിധി ഐതിഹ്യവും ചരിത്രവും സംയോജിപ്പിക്കുന്ന ഒരു പുണ്യദർശന കേന്ദ്രമാണ്. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് എണ്ണൂറിൽ പരം വർഷങ്ങളുടെ ചരിത്രം ഉണ്ട്, എന്ന് ചരിത്ര രേഖകൾ സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.
ഭദ്രകാളി രൂപത്തിൽ കൊടുങ്ങല്ലൂരമ്മയാണ് ഇവിടെ അഭയവരദയായി വാസം ചെയ്യുന്നത്. അമ്മയെ കൂടാതെ ഗണപതി, പരമശിവൻ, യക്ഷി, ആനമറുത, രക്തേശ്വരി, പഴുക്കാച്ചാത്തൻ, നാഗരാജാവ്, നാഗയക്ഷി എന്നിവരെയും ഉപദേവതകളായി ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ആരാധിക്കുന്നു. ദേവിയുടെ തിരുനാളായ കുംഭഭരണി ദിനത്തിൽ, പത്തു കരകളിൽ നിന്നുള്ള ഭക്തർ കുംഭകുടങ്ങളുമായി ഇവിടെ എത്തുന്നു, അമ്മയ്ക്ക് അഭിഷേകം ചെയ്യുവാൻ.
വ്രതശുദ്ധിയോടെ അമ്മയുടെ തിരുസന്നിധിയിൽ മേളക്കൊഴുപ്പും നൃത്തച്ചുവടുകളും, ദേവീ ശരണ മന്ത്രവുമതിർത്തു കൊണ്ടുള്ള കുംഭകുട ഘോഷയാത്ര, ഭക്തികളുടെ സാന്നിധ്യത്തിൽ ഒരു മനോഹരമായ ഉത്സവദൃശ്യമാണ്. മീനഭരണി ദിനത്തിൽ കൊടിയേറി പത്താം ദിനം ആറാട്ടോടുകൂടി അമ്മയുടെ തിരുവുത്സവം ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു. സപ്താഹം, ശിവരാത്രി, കളമെഴുത്തും പാട്ടും തുടങ്ങിയ എല്ലാ ദൈവീക ചടങ്ങുകളും ഇവിടെ നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു.
