Aghora Shiva Temple is a historic and legendary place of worship located near the Koyilandy Railway Station in Koyilandy, Kozhikode, Kerala.
Revered for generations, this temple is one of the rare shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva in his Aghora form. It also houses the self-manifested idol of Uma Maheswaran, one of the 108 divine manifestations of Lord Shiva positioned alongside.
This grand monument is a testament to the rich history, culture, and heritage of the region, which has flourished since the medieval period. The temple's architectural elements reflect the deep-rooted traditions and stories of a nation, carved into its intricately designed structures.
The presiding deity is Lord Shiva in the form of Aghoramurthy. Other deities worshipped here include Lord Ganapathy, Lord Ayyappa, and Lord Sri Krishna. The temple also enshrines idols of Uma-Maheswara and Dakshinamoorthy in the form of sila-linga (stone lingam), enhancing its spiritual significance.
പന്തലായനി അഘോര ശിവക്ഷേത്രം
കോഴിക്കോട് ജില്ലയിലെ കൊയിലാണ്ടി-വടകര റൂട്ടിൽ പന്തലായിനി എന്ന സ്ഥലത്താണ് ശ്രീ അഘോര ശിവക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്. വളരെ പുരാതനവും ആരാധനാപാരമ്പര്യത്തിൽ സുപ്രധാനവുമായ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം അഘോരമൂർത്തിയായ ശിവനെ പ്രധാനമൂർത്തിയായി പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. കിഴക്കോട്ടു ദർശനമായ വലിയ ശിവലിംഗത്തിലാണ് ശിവൻ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നത്.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ഉപദേവതകളിൽ ഉമാമഹേശ്വരൻ, ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണൻ, ഗണപതി, ദക്ഷിണാമൂർത്തി, അയ്യപ്പൻ എന്നിവർ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നു. ഇവയിൽ ഉമാമഹേശ്വര പ്രതിഷ്ഠ സ്വയംഭുവായതും, അതിനാൽ തന്നെ അത്യന്തം വിശിഷ്ടവുമായതുമാണ്. ഉമാമഹേശ്വര പ്രതിഷ്ഠയ്ക്കു മുമ്പിൽ പ്രത്യേക പൂജകൾ നടത്തിയാൽ വിവാഹതടസ്സങ്ങൾ മാറുകയും വിവാഹം വൈകുന്നവർക്കു പെട്ടെന്ന് കല്യാണം നടക്കുന്നതായും വിശ്വാസമുണ്ട്. അതിനാൽ ദൂരദൂരെയുള്ളഭക്തജനങ്ങളും ഇവിടെ എത്താറുണ്ട്.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ മറ്റ് ഉപപ്രതിഷ്ഠകളിൽ ഗണപതി, സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യൻ, ദക്ഷിണാമൂർത്തി, തേവാര ഭഗവതി, നാഗദേവതകൾ എന്നിവയും ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നു.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ പ്രധാന ഉത്സവം കുംഭമാസത്തിലെ മഹാ ശിവരാത്രിയാണ്. മൃത്യുവിനെ ജയിക്കാൻ ഇവിടെ മൃത്യുഞ്ജയ ഹോമം നടത്തിയാൽ വലിയ അനുഗ്രഹം ലഭിക്കും എന്ന വിശ്വാസം ശക്തമാണ്.
ക്ഷേത്രം ഇപ്പോൾ മലബാർ ദേവസ്വം ബോർഡിന്റെ നിയന്ത്രണത്തിൽ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നു. ദർശന സമയം രാവിലെ 5 മണിമുതൽ 10 മണിവരെയും, വൈകുന്നേരം 5:30 മുതൽ 7:30 വരെയും ആണ്. ശിവരാത്രി, തിരുവാതിര പോലുള്ള പ്രത്യേക ദിവസങ്ങളിൽ പ്രത്യേക പൂജകളും ചടങ്ങുകളും നടക്കുന്നു.
