Sree Athakasseri Shiva Temple is located in the heart of Ulliyeri village, renowned for its natural beauty, in the former Kurumbranad Taluk of Kozhikode district.
Situated about 300 meters west of the Ulliyeri–Perambra road, the temple stands in a geographically unique and scenic setting.
Positioned in the valley of the famous Thrikayikunnu hills, the temple once had natural streams flowing along its eastern and northern sides. These two water streams merged and flowed northward, eventually joining the Ramanpuzha nearby.
Festivals hold great importance in temples, as they are believed to enhance the divine energy (Deva Chaithanyam) within the shrine. If the divine energy is perceived to have diminished, festivals are conducted to revitalize it.
Offerings (vazhipadu) are made in temples as acts of devotion to fulfill one's desires. Just as one should not approach a king, guru, or deity empty-handed, offerings are considered a form of Guru Dakshina to the divine.
The most important festival in the Athakasseri temple is Maha Shivaratri. It is believed that those who observe the Shivaratri vratam (vow) with utmost devotion will be blessed by Lord Shiva with the fulfillment of all their desires. On this sacred night, devotees stay awake and engage in worship throughout the night, and it is said that Shiva becomes pleased with such sincere devotion.
Major annual festival at the temple is Maha Shivaratri, celebrated in the Malayalam month of Kumbham (February–March).
ശ്രീ ആതകശ്ശേരി ശിവ ക്ഷേത്രം
കോഴിക്കോട് ജില്ലയിലെ പഴയ കുറുബ്രനാട് താലൂക്കിന്റെ മനോഹരമായ പ്രകൃതി സൗന്ദര്യത്തിൽ നിറഞ്ഞുള്ള ഉള്ളിയേരി ഗ്രാമത്തിന്റെ ഹൃദയഭാഗത്താണ് ശ്രീ ആവനിച്ചിറാതേം ആശുപത്രി ശിവക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്. ഉള്ളിയേരി–പേരാമ്പ്ര റോഡിൽ നിന്നു ഏകദേശം 300 മീറ്റർ പടിഞ്ഞാറായി സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം അതിന്റെ ഭൂമിശാസ്ത്രപരമായ പ്രത്യേകതകൾ കൊണ്ടും ആകർഷകമാണ്.
പ്രസിദ്ധമായ ത്രികൈകുന്നിൻറെ താഴ്വരയിലാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്. ഈ പ്രദേശത്തുകൂടി ഒഴുകുന്ന കിഴക്കും വടക്കും ദിശകളിലായുള്ള രണ്ട് നീരൊഴുക്കുകൾ സമീപത്തെ രാമൻപുഴയിൽ ചേർന്നിരുന്നതായി ഐതിഹ്യം പറയുന്നു.
ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഉത്സവങ്ങൾ വലിയ പ്രാധാന്യമുള്ളവയാണ്. ദേവചൈതന്യത്തിൽ കുറവുണ്ടാകുന്നുവെങ്കിൽ അതു പുനരുദ്ധരിക്കാൻ ഉത്സവങ്ങൾ സംഘടിപ്പിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
ഭക്തജനങ്ങൾ തങ്ങളുടെ അഭിലാഷങ്ങൾ നേർന്നെത്തുന്ന വഴിപാടുകൾ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലും ഉണ്ടാകുന്നു. "ഒഴിഞ്ഞ കൈകളോടെ രാജാവിനെയോ ഗുരുവിനെയോ ദേവനെയോ കാണരുത്" എന്നതുപോലെ, വഴിപാടുകൾ ദേവനോടുള്ള ഗുരുദക്ഷിണപോലെ കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
ശ്രീ അതകശ്ശേരി ശിവക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ഉത്സവം കുംഭമാസത്തിലെ മഹാശിവരാത്രിയിലാണ്.
