Chendamangalam Ayyappa Temple Bharanimukku Kozhikode

The main deity (pratishtha) of the temple is Lord Ayyappa. However, the temple also houses sanctums for Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesh, Lord Vishnu, and Goddess Annapurneshwari, making it a spiritually vibrant and inclusive place of worship. Recognized as one of the oldest temples in Kerala, Chennamangalam Temple is also among the few that feature a Dhwaja Prathishta (flagstaff installation).

It is situated just 2 kilometers from the town, near Chorode. While Lord Ayyappa is the central deity, Lord Shiva also holds a significant place of worship here. Due to this dual prominence, the temple is often referred to as the “Second Sabarimala.” In fact, during a major fire at Sabarimala a few years ago, when many devotees could not make their pilgrimage, they chose to visit Chennamangalam Temple instead, further emphasizing its spiritual significance. A major renovation project was carried out in 2018 with strong support from the local community.

As part of this effort, the temple’s original rooftops—present since its early days—were replaced with durable and elegant teak wood structures. The temple’s annual festival (utsavam) is celebrated in the month of April. Unlike many modern celebrations that feature commercial entertainment, this temple is one of the few that continues to uphold and promote traditional Indian art forms during its festivities. Regular bhajans are conducted during the Sabarimala pilgrimage season. Additionally, every evening, a dedicated bhajan group circles the temple, filling the air with devotional chants, adding to the temple’s serene and sacred atmosphere.

ചേന്ദമംഗലം ശ്രീ അയ്യപ്പ ക്ഷേത്രം

കേരളത്തിലെ കോഴിക്കോട് ജില്ലയിലെ വടകര താലൂക്കിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ചോറോട് പഞ്ചായത്തിലാണ് ചേന്ദമംഗലം ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠ അയ്യപ്പസ്വാമിയാകുന്നു. അതിനോടൊപ്പം ശിവൻ, ഗണേശൻ, വിഷ്ണു, അന്നപൂർണേശ്വരി എന്നിവരും ഇവിടെ ആരാധനാ പ്രതിഷ്ഠകളായുണ്ട്. കേരളത്തിലെ അതിപുരാതന ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നായും ധ്വജസ്ഥംഭം പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന അപൂർവ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലൊന്നായും ചേന്ദമംഗലം ക്ഷേത്രം കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. പട്ടണത്തിൽ നിന്ന് അപ്പുറം രണ്ട് കിലോമീറ്റർ ദൂരത്തിലുള്ള ചോറോഡിന് സമീപമാണ് ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്. ശിവനും അയ്യപ്പനുമാണ് പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠകൾ, അതിനാൽ തന്നെ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം “രണ്ടാം ശബരിമല” എന്നും വിളിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. കുറച്ച് വർഷങ്ങൾക്ക് മുമ്പ് ശബരിമലയിൽ തീപിടുത്തം സംഭവിച്ചപ്പോൾ തീർത്ഥാടകർക്ക് അവിടെ എത്താൻ കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല.

അപ്പോൾ നിരവധി ഭക്തർ ചേന്ദമംഗലം ക്ഷേത്രത്തെ സന്ദർശിച്ചിരുന്നു. 2018-ൽ സമീപ പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലെ നാട്ടുകാരുടെ സഹകരണത്തോടെ വലിയൊരു നവീകരണപ്രവർത്തനം നടപ്പിലാക്കപ്പെട്ടു. അന്നുതന്നെ സ്ഥാപിച്ചിരുന്ന പഴയ മേൽക്കൂരകൾ പുതിയ തേക്ക് മരച്ചില്ലകളാൽ പുനസ്ഥാപിക്കപ്പെട്ടു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ വാർഷിക ഉത്സവം സാധാരണയായി ഏപ്രിൽ മാസത്തിലാണ് നടക്കുന്നത്. ഉത്സവകാലത്ത് സ്റ്റേജ് ഷോകൾക്കുപകരം ഭാരതീയ പരമ്പരാഗത കലാരൂപങ്ങൾക്കാണ് ഇവിടെയിൽ മുൻഗണന നൽകുന്നത്, ഇത് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തെ അപൂർവമായ ഒരു ആചാരഭദ്രതയുള്ള ആസ്ഥാനമാക്കുന്നു. ശബരിമല സീസണിൽ പതിവായി ഭജനകൾ സംഘടിപ്പിക്കാറുണ്ട്. കൂടാതെ, എല്ലാ വൈകുന്നേരത്തും ഭജനസംഘം ക്ഷേത്രം ചുറ്റി പരിക്രമണം ചെയ്യുമ്പോൾ ആലപിക്കുന്ന ഭജനങ്ങൾ ഈ ദേവീക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ അന്തരീക്ഷത്തെ അതീവ ആധ്യാത്മികമാക്കുന്നു.
