Kalpathoor Paradevata Temple, a quintessential example of medieval Kerala temple architecture, dates back to the 14th century.
Mavilambadi Sree Paradevatha Temple complex includes an Eastern Padippura, a traditional two-storeyed Malika on the South, two small Srikovils, two Namaskara Mandapams within a Nalambalam, and a Balikkalppura on the West, all featuring tiled roofs. The main Srikovil stands on a granite Adhishtana with laterite walls, while its wooden Dwarapalakas and ornately crafted Pranala, supported by a Gana at its tip, enhance its grandeur.
The chief deity, Paradevata (Vettakkorumakan), faces West, and its wooden idol, carved from jackfruit tree wood, stands at approximately five and a half feet tall.
Adjacent to the main shrine is another dedicated to Bhagavati. The Balikkalppura ceiling showcases intricate wooden carvings, and the Eastern Padippura is adorned with exquisitely crafted miniature figures, traditionally colored.
These carvings depict various mythological scenes, including Sree Rama Pattabhishekam, Ananthasayanam, Siva Parvathy Parinayam, and Palazhimadhanam. Originally owned by an aristocratic family from the locality, the temple is now managed by a Temple Trust.
കൽപ്പത്തൂർ പരദേവതാ ക്ഷേത്രം
മധ്യകാല കേരള ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളുടെ മികച്ച ഉദാഹരണങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നായ കൽപ്പത്തൂർ പരദേവതാ ക്ഷേത്രം 14-ാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിലേതാണ്. Nochad, Kozhikode-ൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ പ്രധാന ദേവത കിരാതമൂർത്തിയാണ്.
ക്ഷേത്ര സമുച്ചയത്തിൽ കിഴക്കേ പ്രവേശന പടിപ്പുര, പരമ്പരാഗത ഇരുനില മാളിക (മാളികാ കെട്ടിടം) തെക്ക്, രണ്ട് ചെറിയ ശ്രീകോവിലുകൾ, നാലമ്പലത്തിനുള്ളിൽ രണ്ട് നമസ്കാരമണ്ഡപങ്ങൾ, പടിഞ്ഞാറ് ബലിക്കൽപ്പുര എന്നിവ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നു.
ഇവയെല്ലാം ടൈൽപാകിയ മേൽക്കൂരയുള്ളതാണ്. പ്രധാന ശ്രീകോവിലിന് ലാറ്ററൈറ്റ് ഭിത്തികളോട് കൂടിയ ഒരു ഗ്രാനൈറ്റ് അധിഷ്ഠാനമുണ്ട്. മരംകൊണ്ടുള്ള ദ്വാരപാലകങ്ങളും അഗ്രഭാഗത്ത് ഗണ പിന്തുണയുള്ള അലങ്കാര പ്രാണാലയും ശ്രീകോവിലിന്റെ ആകർഷണങ്ങളാണ്. പടിഞ്ഞാറോട്ട് ദർശനമായി സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പ്രധാന ദേവത കിരാതമൂർത്തിയാണ്. ഇവിടത്തെ വിഗ്രഹം ഏകദേശം അഞ്ചര അടി ഉയരമുള്ളതും ചക്കമരത്തിൽ നിന്നാണ് നിർമിച്ചതും ആകുന്നു.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനോട് ചേർന്ന് ഭഗവതിക്കായി സമർപ്പിച്ച ഒരു ശ്രീകോവിൽ കൂടി കാണാം. ബലിക്കൽപ്പുരയുടെ മേൽക്കൂര മനോഹരമായ മരക്കൊത്തുപണികളാൽ അലങ്കരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. കിഴക്കൻ പടിപ്പുരയുടെ മേൽക്കൂരയിൽ ചെറുരൂപങ്ങളുടെ അതിശയകരമായ കൊത്തുപണികളും പരമ്പരാഗത നിറങ്ങളോടുകൂടി ദൃശ്യവൽക്കരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ശ്രീരാമ പട്ടാഭിഷേകം, അനന്തശയനം, ശിവപാർവതി പരിണയം, പാലാഴിമഥനം തുടങ്ങിയ നിരവധി പുരാണ രംഗങ്ങൾ മരത്തിൽ കൊത്തിവച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
ആദ്യകാലത്ത് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം ഒരു പ്രഭുകുടുംബത്തിന്റെ കീഴിലായിരുന്നു. ഇപ്പോൾ ക്ഷേത്ര ട്രസ്റ്റാണ് അതിന്റെ പരിപാലനം നിർവഹിക്കുന്നത്.
