Located within the historic ruins of Balussery Kotta (Fort) in Kozhikode district, Kerala, the Sree Vettakkorumakan Temple is an ancient and revered shrine dedicated to Lord Vettakkorumakan.
This temple is especially known for its vibrant annual three-day festival, celebrated in the Malayalam month of Dhanu (December–January). A key highlight of the festival is the Pantheerayiram Thengayeru ritual, where twelve thousand coconuts are rhythmically broken as an offering to the deity.
This unique and energetic ceremony is believed to be the most cherished offering to Vettakkorumakan, a fierce hunter god.
Another major attraction is the Kalamezhuthu Pattu, a ritual art form that involves drawing intricate patterns (kalams) on the floor using natural powders, accompanied by devotional songs sung in praise of the deity.
Vettakkorumakan, believed to be the divine son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, is worshipped as a guardian and warrior deity in several village temples across North Kerala. The combination of ancient tradition, powerful rituals, and folk heritage makes this temple a significant cultural and spiritual destination.

കേരളത്തിലെ വേട്ടക്കൊരുമകൻ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ അത്യന്തം പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ടതും പ്രസിദ്ധവുമായതാണ് ബാലുശ്ശേരി കോട്ട പരദേവത ക്ഷേത്രം. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം വേട്ടക്കൊരുമകൻ ദൈവത്തോടൊപ്പം ഭഗവതി, അയ്യപ്പൻ, ഗണപതി, സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യൻ തുടങ്ങിയ ഉപദേവതകളെയും ഉൾക്കൊള്ളുന്ന വിശ്വാസകേന്ദ്രമാണ്.പ്രതിവർഷം മലയാളം മാസമായ ധനുവിൽ, ദേവനോടുള്ള ഭക്തി പ്രകടിപ്പിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് പന്തീരായിരം തേങ്ങയേറും പാട്ട് മഹോത്സവവും ആചരിച്ചുവരുന്നു.
ഈ മഹോത്സവം വലിയ ഉത്സാഹത്തോടെയും അഗാധമായ ഭക്തിയോടെയും ഗ്രാമം മുഴുവൻ ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു.
ബാലുശ്ശേരി ടൗണിൽ നിന്ന് ഏകദേശം ഒരു കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലത്തിൽ, കോട്ടനട പുഴയുടെ തീരത്ത് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം, മലബാറിന്റെ മതപരമായയും സാംസ്‌ക്കാരികമായും അതീവ വിലമതിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു ക്ഷേത്രമായി കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
