Panniyankara Sree Durga Bhagavathi Temple predates the city of Kozhikode itself by nearly two centuries. It stands as a remarkable example of 11th–12th century architecture.
Panniyankara Sree Durga Bhagavathi Temple is officially known as Kozhikode Muringath Sree Bhagavathi Kshethram, located in Panniyankara, with the post office at Kallai, in the Kozhikode district of Kerala.
Dedicated to the Mother Goddess, the temple originally enshrined the divine presence of Durga Devi.
Today, the powerful and benevolent form of Bhadrakali Devi is worshipped here, yet the spiritual essence of Durga Devi is believed to continue to reside within the temple's sacred premises.
To protect this ancient shrine from further deterioration, a dedicated temple committee formed by the people of Panniyankara undertook the task of renovation and preservation.
One of the most important rituals observed at the temple is the Karthika Deepam Samarpanam, celebrated during the Karthika Deepam festival in the Malayalam month of Vrishchikam (November–December). On this day, devotees light traditional lamps (deepams) and offer prayers to seek blessings for prosperity, happiness, and spiritual upliftment.
The rituals, especially the Vishesha Mangalya Pooja, are performed with deep devotion. It is believed that participating in these sacred ceremonies brings spiritual purification, divine protection, and the fulfillment of heartfelt desires, drawing devotees closer to the divine grace of Goddess Bhagavathi.

കോഴിക്കോട് നഗരത്തിൽ നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകൾക്കുമുമ്പ് പണികഴിപ്പിച്ച വലിയ ഐതിഹ്യമുള്ള ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് പന്നിയങ്കര ശ്രീ ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രം. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം എ.ഡി. പതിനൊന്നാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിലെ വാസ്തുവിദ്യയുടെ അതുല്യമായ ഉദാഹരണങ്ങളിലൊന്നായി വിലമതിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ഈ പൗരാണിക ക്ഷേത്രം തികച്ചും മാതൃദേവതായ ഭഗവതിക്ക് സമർപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ദുർഗാദേവിയുടെ ദിവ്യശക്തികൾ ഇന്നും ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ആവിഷ്കാരങ്ങളിലൂടെയും വിശേഷാനുഭവങ്ങളിലൂടെയും അനുഭവപ്പെടുന്നു.
ക്ഷേത്രം നശിച്ചു പോകുന്ന അവസ്ഥയിൽ നിന്ന് രക്ഷിക്കാനായി, പന്നിയങ്കരയിലെ ഭക്തജനങ്ങൾ ചേർന്ന് ഒരു സമിതിയെ രൂപീകരിച്ച് നവീകരണ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ ഉദ്ദേശപൂർവം ഏറ്റെടുത്തിരുന്നു.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാനമായൊരു ആചാരപരമായ ആഘോഷമാണ് കാർത്തിക ദീപം സമർപ്പണം, ഇത് മലയാള മാസമായ വൃശ്ചികത്തിൽ (നവംബർ-ഡിസംബർ) കാർത്തിക നക്ഷത്രത്തിൽ ആചരിക്കുന്നു. ഈ ദിനത്തിൽ ഭക്തജനങ്ങൾ ദീപങ്ങൾ തെളിച്ചു ഭഗവതിയെ പൂജിക്കുകയും, ഐശ്വര്യം, സുഖം, ആത്മശുദ്ധി എന്നിവയ്ക്ക് അനുഗ്രഹം തേടുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.
പ്രത്യേകമായി നടക്കുന്ന വിശേഷ മംഗല്യപൂജ ആഴത്തിലുള്ള ഭക്തിയോടെയും ആചാരപരമായ ശുദ്ധിയോടെയും ആചരിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ഈ പൂജകളിൽ പങ്കെടുക്കുന്നത് ആത്മീയ ശുദ്ധിയും ദിവ്യരക്ഷയും മനസ്സിലെ ആഗ്രഹങ്ങൾ നിറവേറും അനുഗ്രഹവും ലഭ്യമാകുമെന്ന വിശ്വാസം ഭക്തന്മാരെ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലേക്ക് ആകർഷിക്കുന്നു.
