Urupunyakavu Sree Durga Bhagavathi Temple, also known as Moodadi Urupunyakavu Temple, is one of the 108 Durga temples established by Lord Parasurama for the prosperity of Kerala.
Situated approximately 850 meters from Moodadi town in Koyilandy, Kozhikode district, the temple is perched on a hillside near the Arabian Sea, which is uniquely shaped like the "Om" symbol. The temple's main deity is Goddess Jaladurga, revered for protecting the land from the monsoon's fury.
Lord Ayyappa and Lord Ganesh are also worshipped here. The temple premises house five sacred ponds filled with holy water, one of which is located inside the temple and is used for all poojas and rituals. A significant ritual performed at the temple is Bali Tharppanam, especially during Karkkidaka Vavu, where thousands of devotees gather to honor their ancestors.
The temple also hosts the Karthika Vilakku Mahotsavam, celebrated with devotion and grandeur. Devotees believe that performing rituals at this temple brings prosperity and spiritual well-being. The temple's serene location and spiritual significance make it a revered destination for pilgrims and visitors alike.
ഉരുപുണ്യകാവ് ശ്രീ ദുർഗ്ഗാ ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രം
മൂഡാടി, കൊയിലാണ്ടി, കോഴിക്കോട് ജില്ലയിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഉരുപുണ്യകാവ് ക്ഷേത്രം, പരശുരാമൻ സ്ഥാപിച്ച 108 ദുർഗാക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നാണ്. അറബിക്കടലിന്റെ "ഓം" ആകൃതിയിലുള്ള തീരദേശത്ത്, കിഴക്കോട്ട് കയറിയുള്ള ഒരു മലമുകളിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം, ജലദുർഗയെ പ്രധാന ദേവതയായി ആരാധിക്കുന്നു. ശാസ്താവും ഗണപതിയും ഉപദേവതകളായി ഇവിടെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
ക്ഷേത്രപരിസരത്ത് അഞ്ചു തീർത്ഥക്കുളങ്ങളുണ്ട്, അതിൽ ഒന്ന് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനകത്തായി സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. ഈ കുളത്തിലെ ജലമാണ് പൂജാദികർമ്മങ്ങൾക്ക് ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നത്.കർക്കടകമാസത്തിലെ വാവുനാളിൽ പിതൃതർപ്പണം (വാവുബലി) നടത്താൻ ആയിരക്കണക്കിന് ഭക്തർ ഇവിടെ എത്തുന്നു. കുംഭം, തുലാം, കർക്കടകം മാസങ്ങളിലെ വാവുദിവസങ്ങളിലും, മരണാനന്തര 16-ാം, 40-ാം ദിവസങ്ങളിലും തർപ്പണം നടത്താൻ ഭക്തർ ഇവിടെ എത്തുന്നു.
ദേവിയുടെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠയിൽ ലക്ഷ്മി, വിദ്യാസ്വരൂപിണി, അന്നപൂർണേശ്വരി എന്നീ ദേവതകളുടെ സാന്നിധ്യം വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ഇതിനാൽ വിദ്യാരംഭം, ചോറൂൺ പോലുള്ള ചടങ്ങുകൾ ഇവിടെ എല്ലാ ദിവസങ്ങളിലും നടത്താം.വൃശ്ചികമാസത്തിലെ കാർത്തിക നാളിൽ ജലദുർഗയുടെ തിരുവുത്സവം ആചരിക്കുന്നു. ഏഴുദിവസം നീണ്ടുനിൽക്കുന്ന ഈ ഉത്സവം, കലാപരിപാടികളോ വെടിക്കെട്ടോ ഇല്ലാതെ, ശാന്തമായ ഭക്തിപൂർണ്ണമായ രീതിയിൽ നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു.
