Anchumurthi Mangalam Mahadeva Temple is an ancient and revered Shiva temple located in Anchumurthi Mangalam near Alathur in the Palakkad district of Kerala.
It is one of the two "Anchumurthi" temples among the 108 sacred Shiva temples in Kerala. The first Anchumurthi temple is identified as Thirumittacode, and the second is referred to as Mangalam. The temple is believed to have been consecrated by Parashurama, the legendary sage and an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
In this temple, Lord Shiva is worshipped in the form of Sadashiva. The temple holds equal significance for five deities: Lord Shiva, Sudarshanamoorthy, Mahavishnu, Parvati Devi, and Lord Ganapati. This unique aspect gives the place its name "Anchumurthi Mangalam," meaning "the place of five deities." Due to this, festivals associated with all these deities—such as Shivaratri, Ashtami Rohini, Narasimha Jayanti, Vinayaka Chaturthi, and Navratri—are celebrated with devotion.
In addition to the five principal deities, the temple also houses sub-deities including Lord Subrahmanya, Lord Ayyappa (Shasta), Veerabhadra, Lord Hanuman, and the Naga (serpent) gods. The temple is currently managed by the Malabar Devaswom Board.
Although historical documentation about the temple is scarce and the temple is not prominently featured in historical texts, it is believed to have been built during the prosperous era of the Kollamkot dynasty.
Three daily pujas are performed at the Shiva, Vishnu, and Sudarshanamurti temples. Among the major festivals celebrated here is Mahashivratri, observed on the thirteenth night and fourteenth day of Krishna Paksha in the Phalguna (Kumbham) month, when devotees gather to offer Koovalam leaves, perform special abhishekam on the Shivalinga, fast, and seek darshan throughout the night. Ashtamirohini, marking Lord Krishna's birth, falls on the day when Ashtami and Rohini coincide in the month of Chingam; special pujas are conducted in the Vishnu temple, and devotees spend the night in devotion and fasting.
Navratri is the temple’s main annual festival dedicated to Goddess Devi, featuring various rituals and celebrations. Narasimha Jayanti, commemorating the fourth incarnation of Lord Vishnu who appeared to destroy the demon Hiranyakashipu, is observed on the Chaturdashi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Vaishakh, and is celebrated with special devotion in the Vishnu shrine.
അഞ്ചുമൂർത്തിമംഗലം ക്ഷേത്രം
പാലക്കാട് ജില്ലയിലെ ആലത്തൂരിനടുത്ത് അഞ്ചുമൂർത്തിമംഗലം എന്ന സ്ഥലത്ത് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരു പുരാതന ശിവക്ഷേത്രമാണ് അഞ്ചുമൂർത്തിമംഗലം മഹാദേവക്ഷേത്രം. കേരളത്തിലെ 108 ശിവക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ പറയുന്ന രണ്ട് അഞ്ചുമൂർത്തിക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നായി ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം പ്രശസ്തമാണ്. ഒന്നാമത്തെ അഞ്ചുമൂർത്തിക്ഷേത്രമായി തിരുമിറ്റക്കോട് അറിയപ്പെടുമ്പോൾ, രണ്ടാമത്തേത് മംഗളം എന്ന പേരിലാണ് അറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്. ഈ മഹാദേവക്ഷേത്രം പരശുരാമൻ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചുവെന്നു വിശ്വാസമുണ്ട്.
ശിവൻ ഇവിടെ സദാശിവസ്വരൂപത്തിൽ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നുവെന്നും, പരമശിവനോടൊപ്പം സുദർശനമൂർത്തി, മഹാവിഷ്ണു, പാർവ്വതിദേവി, ഗണപതി എന്നിവർക്കും തുല്യമായ പ്രാധാന്യമുള്ള ക്ഷേത്രമാണിത്. അതുകൊണ്ട് ശിവരാത്രിയോടൊപ്പം അഷ്ടമിരോഹിണി, നരസിംഹ ജയന്തി, വിനായക ചതുർത്തി, നവരാത്രി തുടങ്ങിയ ഉത്സവങ്ങളും ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ആഘോഷപൂർവം ആചരിക്കുന്നു.
ദൈവങ്ങളുടെ അഞ്ചുപ്രതിഷ്ഠാമൂർത്തികൾ ഒരേ സ്ഥലത്ത് നിലനിൽക്കുന്നതിനാലാണ് ഈ ദേശം ‘അഞ്ചുമൂർത്തിമംഗലം’ എന്ന പേരിൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്നത് എന്ന് കരുതപ്പെടുന്നു.
പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠകളോടൊപ്പം സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യൻ, ശാസ്താവ്, വീരഭദ്രൻ, ഹനുമാൻ, നാഗദൈവങ്ങൾ തുടങ്ങിയ ഉപദേവതാപ്രതിഷ്ഠകളും ഇവിടെ ഉണ്ട്. ഈ മഹാദേവക്ഷേത്രം മലബാർ ദേവസ്വം ബോർഡിന്റെ കീഴിലാണുള്ളത്. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠയായ ശിവനെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചത് വൈഷ്ണവസ്വരൂപിയായ മഹർഷി പരശുരാമനാണെന്നു വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
എന്നാൽ പിന്നീട് ഈ പ്രതിഷ്ഠ നശിച്ച് പോയതായും, പിന്നീട് മഹർഷി കശ്യപൻ ഇതിനെ പുതുക്കിയതായും നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകളായി വിശ്വാസികളിടയിൽ പരാമർശിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ നിത്യേന ശിവക്ഷേത്രത്തിലും വിഷ്ണുക്ഷേത്രത്തിലും സുദർശനമൂർത്തിയുടെ നടയിലുമാണ് മൂന്നു പൂജകൾ നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നത്.ഫാൽഗുന മാസത്തിലെ (മലയാളം കുംഭമാസം) കൃഷ്ണപക്ഷത്തിലെ പതിമൂന്നാം രാത്രി മുതൽ പതിനാലാം പകലുവരെ മഹാശിവരാത്രി ആചരിക്കുന്നു.
ശിവലിംഗത്തിൽ കൂവള ഇലകൾ അർപ്പിക്കുകയും, ഉപവാസം പാലിക്കുകയും, രാത്രി അഭിഷേകപൂജകൾ നടത്തുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. ശിവനെ ദർശിച്ചും അനുഗ്രഹം കൈവരിക്കാനായി ഭക്തർ വലിയ തോതിൽ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ഒത്തുകൂടുന്നു.ചിങ്ങമാസത്തിലെ അഷ്ടമിതിഥിയും രോഹിണിനക്ഷത്രവും ഒന്നിച്ചുനിൽക്കുന്ന ദിവസമാണ് അഷ്ടമിരോഹിണി. ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണജയന്തിയായി ആചരിക്കുന്ന ഈ ദിനത്തിൽ വിഷ്ണുക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ വിശേഷപൂജകളും കൃത്യചടങ്ങുകളും നടപ്പാക്കുന്നു.
അന്നേദിവസം ഭക്തർ അർദ്ധരാത്രിവരെ കീർത്തനം ചൊല്ലുകയും ഉപവാസം പാലിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.ദേവി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന വാർഷികോത്സവമായ നവരാത്രി ഭക്തിസാന്ദ്രമായ ആചാരങ്ങളോടെ ആഘോഷിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.മഹാവിഷ്ണുവിന്റെ നാലാമത്തെ അവതാരമായ നരസിംഹന്റെ ജയന്തിയാണ് വൈശാഖമാസത്തിലെ ശുക്ലപക്ഷ ചതുർദശിയ ദിവസം ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നത്. ഹിരണ്യകശിപുവിനെ സംഹരിക്കാൻ ഭഗവാൻ നരസിംഹമായി അവതരിച്ചതിന്റെ ഓർമയായി, വിഷ്ണുക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ഈ ദിനം പ്രത്യേക ചടങ്ങുകളോടെ ആചരിക്കുന്നു.
