Elambulassery Nalusseri Valiya Bhagavathi Temple is located 5 km west of Ponnagod on the Mannarkkad road in Palakkad district, Kerala.
This prominent temple is dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakali and faces north. It is renowned for its annual Pooram festival, which is celebrated on the Pooram nakshatra in the Malayalam month of Meenam (March–April). Nearly 30 caparisoned elephants participate in this grand event, making it a spectacular celebration.
One of the unique features of this temple is the use of Vattakkalam instead of the traditional Roopakkalam during the Kalam Pattu ceremony.
Kalam Pattu is performed during the Mandala Kaalam, a 41-day observance. Tholpavakoothu, a traditional shadow puppet performance, is also conducted here as part of the temple rituals.The temple was historically one of the most important shrines in ancient Valluvanad and is considered the presiding goddess (grama paradevatha) of 14 nearby deshams (regions). Elambulassery is also regarded as the moola kshetram (original temple) of around 12 other temples in the area, including Oottupura, Pulinkavu, Kodarmanna Ayyappan, and Karakurissi.
The main idol (murti) of the goddess is made of clay and stands nearly 7 feet tall, depicted seated atop a Vedalam (a mythical being). There are two clay murtis housed in the sanctum sanctorum, along with a kannadi shila vigraham (a mirror-image idol made from stone).
Daily pujas are performed by a member of the Kulangara Nair family. However, during the Mandala Kalam period, the rituals are conducted by a Namboothiri priest. The temple also holds two types of chanthattom ceremonies.
Upa Devata (sub-deity) worshipped in the temple is Kshetrapalan, also represented in clay form. The Thottaya Shiva Temple serves as the keezhedom (subordinate temple) of the Nalusseri Bhagavathi Temple.
Other major festivals observed here include the Thalappoli festival in the Malayalam month of Edavam (May–June) and the Prathishta Dinam (consecration anniversary) in the month of Mithunam (June–July).
എളമ്പുലാശ്ശേരി നാലുശ്ശേരി ക്ഷേത്രം
പാലക്കാട് ജില്ലയിലെ മണ്ണാർക്കാട് മേഖലയിലുള്ള പ്രധാന ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലൊന്നാണ് എളമ്പുലാശ്ശേരി നാലുശ്ശേരി ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രം. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം, പ്രദേശത്തുള്ള 12 നാലുശ്ശേരി ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങൾക്ക് മൂലക്ഷേത്രമായി കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
കളിമണ്ണ് കൊണ്ട് നിർമ്മിച്ച ഒരു ആറടിയിലധികം ഉയരമുള്ള പൂർണകായ ഭദ്രകാളി രൂപത്തിലാണ് ദേവി പ്രതിഷ്ഠ ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നത്. ദർശനത്തിൽ ഭദ്രകാളിയുടെ മഹാരൂപമാകുമെങ്കിലും, ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ഭഗവതി ശാന്തസ്വരൂപിണിയായി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ വാസം ചെയ്യുന്നെന്ന വിശ്വാസം കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. 96 ദേശങ്ങൾ തട്ടകമായി ഭഗവതിയെ ആരാധിക്കുന്നതും ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ പ്രധാന പ്രത്യേകതകളിലൊന്നാണ്.
മുന്‍കാലത്ത് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം സാമൂതിരിയും ഏറാൾപ്പാടുമാണ് കൈവശം വഹിച്ചിരുന്നത്. പിന്നീട് ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥലത്തെ സാമന്തന്മാരുടെ കീഴിലായി. അടുത്തകാലം വരെ എളമ്പുലാശ്ശേരി മൂപ്പിൽനായർ കുടുംബം ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ ഊരാഴ്മ നിർവഹിച്ചു വരികയായിരുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ഉത്സവങ്ങൾ മീനമാസത്തിലെ പൂരം നാളിൽ നടക്കുന്ന പൂരവും ഇടവമാസത്തിലെ താലപ്പൊലിയുമാണ്. കൂടാതെ, മണ്ഡലകാലത്ത് മണ്ഡലോത്സവവും ഇവിടെ ഭക്തപരവശതയോടെ ആചരിക്കുന്നു.
