Erattingal Pakkanar Temple is located near the Kumbidi junction in the Paraya Colony of Thrithala Panchayath, Palakkad district.
This temple is dedicated to Pakkanar, one of the twelve children of Vararuchi and his Paraya wife Panchami, who are collectively known in folklore as the Parayipetta Panthirukulam. "Erattingal" is believed to be the family name of Pakkanar.
According to legend, Vararuchi was a renowned scholar in the court of King Vikramaditya. He married Panchami, a woman from the Paraya community, and they had twelve children.
These children were adopted and raised by families from various castes and religions in society, and each of them became highly skilled and spiritually enlightened in their respective domains, as per traditional tales.
At this temple, along with the idol of Pakkanar, there are also installations of 84,000 divine spirits (known locally as moorthams) such as Chathan, Chovva, Karinkutty, and Dandan, believed to have been invoked and brought by Pakkanar himself. The idols here are made from materials like stone, wood, and clay tiles. The temple, which faces east, conducts rituals and worship three times a day.
ഈരാറ്റിങ്ങൽ ക്ഷേത്രം
പാലക്കാട് ജില്ലയിലെ തൃത്താല പഞ്ചായത്തിലെ കുമ്പിടി തിരിവിന് സമീപമുള്ള പറയ കോളനിയിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് ഈരാറ്റിങ്ങൽ പാക്കനാർ ക്ഷേത്രം. പറയിപെറ്റ പന്തിരുകുലത്തിലെ അംഗനായ പാക്കനാരുടെ ക്ഷേത്രമാണിത്. ‘ഈരാറ്റിങ്ങൽ’ എന്നത് പാക്കനാറിന്റെ കുടുംബപ്പേരാണ്.
ഐതിഹ്യപ്രകാരം, വിക്രമാദിത്യന്റെ സദസ്സിലെ മുഖ്യപണ്ഡിതനായിരുന്ന ബ്രാഹ്മണൻ വരരുചിയ്ക്കും പറയ സമുദായത്തിൽപ്പെട്ട പഞ്ചമി എന്ന സ്ത്രീയ്ക്കുമുണ്ടായ പന്ത്രണ്ടു മക്കളെയാണ് ‘പരയിപെറ്റ പന്തിരുകുലം’ എന്നു വിളിക്കുന്നത്.
ഇവരെ സമൂഹത്തിലെ വിവിധ ജാതിമതസ്ഥർ വളർത്തിയതായും, എല്ലാവരും അവരവരുടെ മേഖലകളിൽ അതിവിദഗ്ദ്ധരായും ദൈവികശക്തിയുള്ളവരായും മാറിയതായും ഐതിഹ്യങ്ങൾ പറയുന്നു.
ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ, പാക്കനാറിനൊപ്പം അദ്ദേഹം ആവാഹിച്ചവരായ ചാത്തൻ, ചൊവ്വ, കരിങ്കുട്ടി, ദണ്ടൻ തുടങ്ങിയ എൻപത്തീരായിരം മൂർത്തികളും പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഇവിടെ കല്ല്, മരം, ഓട് തുടങ്ങിയവ ഉപയോഗിച്ച് നിർമ്മിച്ച വിഗ്രഹങ്ങളാണ് ആരാധനയ്‌ക്കുള്ളത്. കിഴക്കോട്ട് ദർശനമുള്ള ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ മൂന്നുനേരം നിത്യപൂജകൾ നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു.
