Karimpuzha Sree Ramaswamy Temple, also known as the "Dakshina Ayodhya" (Southern Ayodhya), is located in the Palakkad district of Kerala.
Sree Ramaswamy Temple stands on the banks of the Karimpuzha River, a major tributary of the Bharathapuzha River.
Historically, the temple was under the ownership of the Kozhikode Samoodhiripad – Eralpad, the designated heir to the Zamorin (Samoodhiri), who had his "Kovilakam" (royal residence) at Karimpuzha. Sreeramaswamy Temple is renowned for its special rituals and offerings.
According to legend, Lord Rama renounced his life in the Karimpuzha River—considered symbolically as the River Sarayu. It is believed that Lord Hanuman was present with Rama during his final moments, which explains Hanuman's presence within the temple. A deity of Hanuman was later consecrated inside the temple.
Karimpuzha Sree Ramaswamy Temple is regarded as one of the rarest and most revered 'Mahakshetrams' (great temples) in Kerala.
കരിമ്പുഴ ശ്രീരാമസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം
കരിമ്പുഴ ശ്രീ രാമസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം (ദക്ഷിണ അയോധ്യ എന്ന പേരിലും അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു) കേരളത്തിലെ പാലക്കാട് ജില്ലയിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. ഭാരതപ്പുഴയുടെ പ്രധാന പോഷകനദികളിൽ ഒന്നായ കരിമ്പുഴ നദിയുടെ തീരത്താണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്.
ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം മുൻകാലത്ത് കോഴിക്കോട് സാമൂതിരിയുടെ ആവകാശിയായിരുന്ന സാമൂതിരിപ്പാട് - എരാൽപ്പാടിന്റെ ഉടമസ്ഥതയിലായിരുന്നു.
അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് കരിമ്പുഴയിൽ "കോവിലകം" ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നുവെന്നും ചരിത്രം സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ വിവിധ പ്രത്യേക വഴിപാടുകളും നിത്യേന പൂജാവിധാനങ്ങളും നിറവേറ്റപ്പെടുന്നു.
പൗരാണിക വിശ്വാസപ്രകാരം, രാമൻ തന്റെ ജീവൻ ത്യജിച്ചത് കരിമ്പുഴ നദിയിലാണെന്നും അതിനാൽ തന്നെ ഇത് സരയു നദിയുടെ പ്രതിനിധിയാണെന്നുമാണ് വിശ്വാസം.
രാമന്റെ അവസാന നിമിഷങ്ങളിൽ ഹനുമാൻ മാത്രമാണ് കൂടെയുണ്ടായിരുന്നതെന്ന് പറയപ്പെടുന്നു. അതിനാലാണ് ഹനുമാന്റെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠയും ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനകത്തുള്ളത്.
കേരളത്തിലെ അത്യന്തം അപൂർവമായ മഹാക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നായി കരിമ്പുഴ ശ്രീ രാമസ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രം വിശേഷിപ്പിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
