Sri Kottukulangara Bhagavati Temple is located near Kannanur Bridge in Kannadi, close to Kuzhalmannam, along National Highway 544 in Palakkad district.
The presiding deity is Goddess Kali, considered a powerful manifestation of the Supreme Energy (Parashakti). She is worshipped here as Kottukulangara Bhagavati — the compassionate, auspicious Mother Goddess who is believed to be the origin of all creation and the life force behind all living beings, though formless in essence.
Legend says that the Goddess once appeared before a group of Brahmin ascetics who were performing intense penance on the northwestern banks of the Kannadi River.
In devotion, they constructed a shrine at Chatanamkurussi, on the banks of the river, and began worshipping Her. However, over time, due to the misdeeds and sinful actions of the Brahmins and local residents, a tragedy befell them, leading to their demise. The temple lost its significance, deteriorated, and was eventually abandoned. The sanctity faded, and the place turned into a dense forest avoided by people.
Years later, women who entered the forest to collect firewood encountered a spiritually charged presence.
They brought this divine object home and began worshipping it. Realizing its divine power, they handed it over to a local noble family, who built the present-day temple and re-established regular worship.
The temple celebrates the festival of Thiruvathira in the month of Dhanu (December–January) with great fervor. The main annual temple festival takes place in the Malayalam month of Makaram (January–February).
Rituals are conducted under the guidance of the temple’s thantri, Andaladi Mana Parameswaran Namboothirippad. Festival events include cultural programs, Pongala offerings, Lalitha Sahasranama recitation, Ottanthullal, and Chakyar Koothu. Large numbers of devotees visit during this time to receive the blessings of the Goddess.

പാലക്കാട് ജില്ലയിൽ കുഴൽമന്നത്തിനടുത്ത്, ദേശീയപാത 544-ലുള്ള കണ്ണാനൂർ പാലത്തിൽനിന്ന് കാൽനടയായി നാലു മിനിറ്റ് മാത്രം നടന്നാൽ തന്നെ, കണ്ണാടി സ്വദേശത്തുള്ള പ്രശസ്തമായ ശ്രീ കൊറ്റുകുളങ്ങര ഭഗവതിക്ഷേത്രത്തിലേക്ക് എത്തിച്ചേരാം.
ഇഹലോകത്തെയും അതിലെ സകല ജീവജാലങ്ങളെയും സൃഷ്ടിക്കുകയും അവരുടെ ജീവനും ജീവിതത്തിനും ആധാരമായിരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്ന പരാശക്തിയുടെ അംശമായ കാളിദേവിയാണ് ഇവിടെ സർവ്വമംഗളമായി വാഴുന്നത്.
കണ്ണാടിപ്പുഴയുടെ വടക്കുപടിഞ്ഞാറ് ഭാഗത്ത് കടുത്ത തപസ്സിൽ ലീനരായിരുന്ന ബ്രാഹ്മണ സന്യാസിമാർക്ക് ദേവി പ്രത്യക്ഷംപ്പെട്ടതായി ഐതിഹ്യം പറയുന്നു. തുടർന്ന്, പുഴയുടെ തീരത്തുള്ള ചടാനാം കുറുശ്ശിയിലാണ് ക്ഷേത്രം നിർമ്മിച്ച് ഭഗവതിയെ ആരാധിച്ചത്. എന്നാൽ, പിന്നീട് സംഭവിച്ച അശുഭവും അദര്‍മ്മപരമായ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളും മൂലം ബ്രാഹ്മണരും പ്രദേശവാസികളും ദുരന്തങ്ങൾ അനുഭവിക്കുകയും, ക്ഷേത്രം പ്രശസ്തിയും ശക്തിയും ഇല്ലാതാവുകയും ചെയ്തു. പതുക്കെ ക്ഷേത്രം അശ്രദ്ധയിൽപ്പെട്ട് കൊടുങ്കാടായി മാറുകയും ചെയ്തു.
പിന്നീട്, ആ കാട്ടിൽ വിറക് ശേഖരിക്കാൻ പോയ സ്ത്രീകൾക്ക് ദൈവിക ചൈതന്യമുള്ള ഒരു ഉപാധി ലഭിക്കുകയും അവർ അതിനെ വീടിലെത്തിച്ച് പൂജിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. അതിലൂന്നിയാണ് ഭഗവതിയുടെ ശക്തി തിരിച്ചറിയപ്പെട്ടത്. പിന്നീട് ആ പ്രതിമയെ പ്രദേശത്തെ പ്രഭു കുടുംബത്തിന് ഏല്പിക്കുകയും അവർ ഇപ്പോഴുള്ള ക്ഷേത്രം പണികഴിപ്പിക്കുകയും തുടർന്നും ഭഗവതിയെ ആചാരാനുഷ്ഠാനങ്ങൾ പാലിച്ച് ആരാധിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ഉത്സവങ്ങളിലൊന്നായ തിരുവാതിര ധനുമാസത്തിൽ ആചരിക്കുന്നു. മകരമാസത്തിലാണ് പ്രധാന ഉത്സവാഘോഷങ്ങൾ നടക്കുന്നത്.. ഉത്സവ ദിവസങ്ങളിൽ സാംസ്കാരിക പരിപാടികൾ, പൊങ്കാല, ലളിതാസഹസ്രനാമ പാരായണം, ഓട്ടൻതുള്ളൽ, ചാക്യാർകൂത്ത് എന്നിവയും നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. ഭഗവതിയുടെ അനുഗ്രഹം ലഭിക്കാൻ ശതാധികം ഭക്തജനങ്ങൾ ഇവിടെ എത്തിച്ചേരുന്നത് പതിവാണ്.
