പാലക്കാട് ജില്ലയിലെ മണ്ണാർക്കാട് താലൂക്കിൽ, ടിപ്പു സുൽത്താൻ റോഡിൽ നെല്ലിപ്പുഴ പാലത്തിനു സമീപം, മണ്ണാർക്കാട് ടൗൺ ബസ് സ്റ്റോപ്പിൽ നിന്ന് ഏകദേശം 1.5 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെയായി ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. ആയിരത്തിലധികം വർഷത്തെ ചരിത്രമുള്ള ക്ഷേത്രമാണിത്. അമ്പും വില്ലും ആയുധമാക്കിയ ജടാധാരിയായ ഒരു യതിശ്രേഷ്ഠൻ ആദ്യമായി ഈ ദൈവചൈതന്യം ദർശിച്ചതായി വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു. വനവാസക്കാലത്ത് പാണ്ഡവന്മാരിൽ ഒരാളോ, അല്ലെങ്കിൽ സീതാന്വേഷണ സമയത്ത് ശ്രീരാമനോ ആയിരിക്കാമെന്നു കരുതപ്പെടുന്ന ആ യതിശ്രേഷ്ഠനാണ് ഈ ദൈവചൈതന്യം അനുഭവിച്ചതെന്ന് പുരാണകഥനമുണ്ട്.

ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന സ്വയംഭൂ പ്രതിഷ്ഠ, പടിഞ്ഞാറോട്ടുള്ള ദർശന ദിശ, ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ മുമ്പിലൂടെ ഒഴുകുന്ന ഭാരതപുഴയുടെ കൈവഴിയായ നെല്ലിപ്പുഴയുടെ ജലപ്രവാഹം എന്നിവയെല്ലാം ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തെ മഹാക്ഷേത്രമെന്ന നിലയിൽ അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.മുഖ്യപ്രതിഷ്ഠ പാർവതീദേവിയോടൊപ്പം ഉള്ള ശ്രീപരമേശ്വരനാണ്. അതോടൊപ്പം മഹാവിഷ്ണുവിനും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ അവതാരരൂപമായ വിഷ്ണുവിനും സമർപ്പിച്ച ശ്രീകോവിലുകളും തുല്യ പ്രാധാന്യത്തോടെ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. ഉപദേവതകളായി ഗണപതി, പുഷ്കലാസമേതനായ ശാസ്താവ്, നാഗങ്ങൾ എന്നിവയും പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ദൈവചൈതന്യം ദർശിച്ച മുനീശ്വരനെയും ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ആലിൻചുവട്ടിൽ പ്രത്യേകം പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്.
