Palur Mahadeva Temple, also known as Panayur Temple, is located in Vaniyamkulam , Thathamangalam in the Palakkad district of Kerala.
Situated about 2 kilometers from Thathamangalam on the Palakkad–Thathamangalam route, this ancient temple is believed to be one among the 108 Shiva temples consecrated by Sage Parashurama.
Palur Mahadeva Temple stands on the banks of the Shokanashini River. Constructed in traditional Kerala temple architecture, it is believed by devotees that the deity here, like the river flowing beside it, removes sorrow—hence the name Shokanashini, meaning “destroyer of sorrow.”
Palur Mahadeva Temple observes the three traditional daily rituals: Usha Pooja (morning), Ucha Pooja (noon), and Athazha Pooja (evening). Shokanashini River, also known locally as the Kannadipuzha or Chittur River, originates from Anamalai in Tamil Nadu, flows westward across the Kerala border, and joins the Bharathapuzha—one of Kerala’s major rivers—near the temple.
Major festivals celebrated at the temple include Shivaratri and Vinayaka Chaturthi.
പാലൂർ മഹാദേവ ക്ഷേത്രം തത്തമംഗലം
പാലക്കാട് ജില്ലയിലെ തത്തമംഗലത്ത് പാലൂർ എന്ന സ്ഥലത്താണ് പാലൂർ മഹാദേവക്ഷേത്രം (പനയൂർ പാലൂർ ശിവക്ഷേത്രം) സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്. പരശുരാമൻ സ്ഥാപിച്ച 108 ശിവക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നായി വിശേഷിപ്പിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. പനയൂർ മഹാദേവക്ഷേത്രം എന്നും പാലൂർ മഹാദേവക്ഷേത്രം എന്നും ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. പ്രശസ്തമായ ഭാരതപ്പുഴയുടെ പ്രധാന കൈവഴികളിലൊന്നായ ശോകനാശിനിപ്പുഴയുടെ തീരത്താണ് ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്. പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠ മഹാദേവനാണ്.
എല്ലാ ദുഃഖങ്ങളും വിഷമങ്ങളും നീക്കുന്ന ദൈവമാണ് ഇവിടെ ഭഗവാൻ മഹാദേവനെന്നു ഭക്തർ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു. കിഴക്കോട്ട് ദർശനത്തോടെയാണ് ക്ഷേത്ര നിർമ്മാണം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നത്. ഗണപതി, വിഷ്ണു എന്നീ ദേവതകൾക്ക് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ഉപദേവതാപ്രതിഷ്ഠകളും ഉണ്ട്.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനു സമീപം ഇന്നും കാണാൻ കഴിയുന്ന മറ്റൊരു പുരാതന ക്ഷേത്രം പഴയകാലത്ത് നിലനിന്നിരുന്നതായി വിശ്വാസമുണ്ട്. ആദ്യം മഹാദേവന്റെ സാന്നിധ്യം ആ പഴയ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലായിരുന്നുവെന്നാണ് ഐതിഹ്യം. ടിപ്പുസുൽത്താന്റെ പടയോട്ട സമയത്ത് ആ പഴയ ക്ഷേത്രം നശിപ്പിക്കപ്പെട്ടുവെന്നാണ് പറയപ്പെടുന്നത്.
