Sree Ponmugham Shiva Temple is located at Pottachira, off the Pattambi–Cherpulassery road in Palakkad district, Kerala.
This ancient temple is uniquely dedicated to both Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. The sanctum sanctorum of Lord Shiva is circular in shape (vatta sreekovil) and enshrines a Shivling, while the shrine of Lord Vishnu features a square sanctum (chathura sreekovil). Upa devatas worshipped here include Mahaganapathy, Lord Sastha, and Goddess Bhagavathy.
The temple complex also includes a chuttambalam, a namaskara mandapam, and a sacred pond.
Renowned as a fine example of traditional Kerala-style Shiva temples, Sree Ponmugham Temple celebrates its annual festival with a combination of Tantric and Vedic rituals, including homams and dhara. Other significant observances at the temple include Vishu, Ramayana Masam, Vinayaka Chaturthi, Navratri, Mandalakalam, Thrikarthika, and Thiruvathira. Among these, Maha Shivratri stands out as one of the most important and widely celebrated festivals at the shrine.
ശ്രീ പൊന്മുഖം ശിവക്ഷേത്രം
പാലക്കാട് ജില്ലയിലെ ചെർപ്പുളശേരി താലൂക്കിലെ നെല്ലായയിലെ പൊട്ടച്ചിറയിൽ, പൊന്മുഖം മലയുടെ അടിവാരത്താണ് പ്രശസ്തമായ ശ്രീ പൊന്മുഖം ശിവ-വിഷ്ണു ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്. ആലോചനാപരമായ ഐതിഹ്യങ്ങൾ അനുസരിച്ച്, ഏകദേശം 5,000 വർഷം മുമ്പ് തന്നെ ഈ സ്ഥലത്ത് ദേവചൈതന്യം നിലനിന്നിരുന്നുവെന്നാണ് വിശ്വാസം. പ്രകൃതിരമണീയമായ മലമുകളിൽ ശാന്തവും ദിവ്യവുമായ വാതാവരണത്തിലാണു ക്ഷേത്രം.ഐതിഹ്യപ്രകാരം, അതേസമയം വിഷ്ണുഭക്തരായ താപസികൾ മലമുകളിൽ വിഷ്ണുവിനെ ആരാധിച്ചിരുന്നതായി പ്രശ്നവിചാരത്തിൽ തെളിയുന്നു.
തുടർന്ന് ബ്രാഹ്മണർ ഇവിടെയെത്തി ശിവനും വിഷ്ണുവിനും പ്രതിഷ്ഠ നടത്തി നിത്യാർച്ചന തുടങ്ങി. കാലക്രമേണ ക്ഷേത്രം സാമൂതിരികളുടെ സാമന്തരായ രാജകുടുംബത്തിന്റെ സംരക്ഷണത്തിലായപ്പോൾ, ഇപ്പോൾ മലബാർ ദേവസ്വം ബോർഡിന്റെ കീഴിലാണു ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ ഭരണനിർവഹണം.
ഏകദേശം ഒന്നര ഏക്കർ വിസ്തീർണമുള്ള വലിയ ക്ഷേത്രക്കുളം ഇവിടെ പ്രത്യേക ആകർഷണമാണ്. ക്ഷേത്ര പുനരുദ്ധാരണ സമിതിയുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ ശ്രീകോവിലിന്റെ നവീകരണവും, ചുറ്റമ്പലത്തിന്റെ നിർമ്മാണവും ദേശവാസികളുടെ ഐക്യത്തോടെ പൂർത്തിയാക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്.
കിഴക്കോട്ട് അഭിമുഖമായി ദർശനം. ഗണപതി, ശാസ്താവ്, ഭഗവതി, നാഗദേവതകൾ എന്നിവയുടെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠകളും ഉണ്ട്. കൂടാതെ, സുബ്രഹ്മണ്യസ്വാമിക്ക് പ്രത്യേകം ശ്രീകോവിൽ പണിതിരിക്കുന്നതും ശ്രദ്ധേയമാണ്.
ഓരോ വർഷവും ആഗസ്റ്റ് 16 മുതൽ ക്ഷേത്ര സംരക്ഷണ സമിതിയുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ ഭാഗവത സപ്താഹം ആരംഭിക്കുന്നു. ശ്രീകൃഷ്ണ ജയന്തി, മഹാശിവരാത്രി, രാമായണമാസാചരണം തുടങ്ങിയവയാണ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ഉത്സവങ്ങൾ.
