എലന്തൂരിൽ നിന്ന് ഏകദേശം 1.2 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെ, പച്ചപുതച്ച കുന്നുകളും മലകളും ചുറ്റിയ മടിത്തട്ടിലാണ് എലന്തൂർ ഭഗവതിക്കുന്ന് ദേവീക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്. തിരുവിതാംകൂറിലെ പ്രധാന ദേവീക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിലൊന്നായ ഭഗവതി കുന്ന് ദേവീക്ഷേത്രം, വടക്കേ മലബാറിലെ പുരാതന ഇല്ലത്തുനിന്നും, ടിപ്പു സുൽത്താന്റെ പടയോട്ടക്കാലത്ത്, കുല ഭരദേവതയായ ദേവിയെ (ദേവി) കൈക്കൊള്ളാൻ മുല്ലപ്പള്ളി നമ്പൂതിരി നിരവധി ഗ്രാമങ്ങൾ (നാരങ്ങാനം, ഒന്തേക്കാട്, പുനയ്ക്കാട് തുടങ്ങിയവ) കടന്നുപോയി എളന്തൂരിൽ എത്തി അപ്രത്യക്ഷനായി.
250 വർഷം പഴക്കമുള്ള ശ്രീഭഗവതിക്കുന്ന് ദേവീക്ഷേത്രം, അപകടകരമായ പാതയിലൂടെ കടന്നുപോകുന്ന കാളവണ്ടികൾക്കും വഴിയാത്രക്കാർക്കും സംരക്ഷകമായി ദേവി വിളിപ്പുറത്തമ്മ എന്ന നിലയിൽ നിലനിന്നിരുന്നുവെന്ന് പറയപ്പെടുന്നു. ഭക്തർ ദേവിയുടെ ഇഷ്ടമായ അറുനാഴിപായസം സമർപ്പിക്കുന്നു. കേരളത്തിലെ മറ്റ് ഭദ്രകാളി ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നു വ്യത്യസ്തമായി, എളന്തൂർ ഭദ്രകാളി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ശ്രീ ഭദ്രകാളി "വരദാഭയ മുദ്ര"യുടെ ദയാലുക്കളിൽ 'വേതാളി'യെ അഭിമുഖീകരിക്കുന്നു, വേതാളി ഭദ്രകാളിയുടെ വാഹനം ആണ്. 'കപാലം' (തലയോട്ടി), 'വാൾ' (വാൾ), 'പാനപാത്രം' (പാനപാത്രം) എന്നിവ കൈകളിൽ പിടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന നാലു കൈകളോടെയാണ് ദേവിയെ ചിത്രീകരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്.
