Elavumthitta Malanada is situated a mere 350 meters from the village of Ilavumthitta in the Pathanamthitta district and is dedicated to Malayapooppan (Mahadeva).
Aswathy festival, celebrated in the Malayalam month of Meenam, stands as the most significant annual event for the residents of Elavumthitta. This festival includes the Ashwati Mahotsav and Ketkukasha, which take place each year on Ashwati day during Meenam. In instances where two Ashwati days occur within the same month, the latter is designated for the festival.
Historically, during the period when Kerala's temples were controlled by upper castes, access to worship and festivals was denied to many. In response, the Avarna communities in and around Elavumthitta initiated the Ilamvumthitta Ashwati Mahotsav and Ketkukasha, led by the Ezhava community.
Consequently, this festival embodies the courageous resistance of the Avarna groups. The Chendamelam, integral to traditional Dravidian culture, produces vibrant rhythms that captivate the audience, particularly when artisans showcase the kettukasha urupadis. Furthermore, each Ashwati festival serves as a reunion for individuals who have traveled abroad for marriage, employment, and other pursuits.
ഇലവുംതിട്ട മലനട
പത്തനംതിട്ട ജില്ലയിലെ ഇലവുംതിട്ടയിൽ നിന്നും 350 മീറ്റർ അകലെയായാണ് പ്രശസ്തമായ കെട്ടുകാഴ്ച മഹോത്സവം നടക്കുന്നത്. ഇലവുംതിട്ട ഗ്രാമത്തിലെ മലനടയിൽ നടക്കുന്ന അശ്വതി മഹോത്സവവും കെട്ടുകാഴ്ചയും എല്ലാ വർഷവും മീന മാസത്തിലെ അശ്വതി നാളിൽ നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. ഒരു മാസത്തിൽ രണ്ട് അശ്വതി നാൾ വന്നാൽ, രണ്ടാമത്തെ ദിവസം ഉത്സവം നടത്താൻ മാറ്റിവയ്ക്കുന്നു. മദ്ധ്യതിരുവിതാംകൂറിലെ ഒരു പ്രശസ്തമായ ഉത്സവമാണിത്.
കൂടാതെ, കെട്ടുകാഴ്ച കേരളത്തിൽ വ്യാപകമായി അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. മുമ്പ്, ഈ ഉത്സവത്തിനോടൊപ്പം കാർഷിക മേളകളും കന്നുകാലി വ്യാപാരങ്ങളും സംഘടിപ്പിച്ചിരുന്നു. ഏകദേശം നൂറ് വർഷങ്ങളായി നടത്തപ്പെടുന്ന അശ്വതി മഹോത്സവം, കേരളത്തിലെ മറ്റ് ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ നടക്കുന്ന ആചാരപരമായ ഉത്സവങ്ങളേക്കാൾ വ്യത്യസ്തമാണ്. ഒരു കാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ കേരളത്തിലെ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങൾ സവർണ്ണരുടെ നിയന്ത്രണത്തിലായിരുന്നപ്പോൾ, അവിടെ നടക്കുന്ന ആരാധനകളും ഉത്സവങ്ങളും അവർണ്ണ വിഭാഗങ്ങൾക്ക് പ്രവേശനം നിഷേധിച്ചിരുന്നു.
ഈ സാഹചര്യത്തിൽ, ഈഴവ സമുദായത്തിന്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ ആരംഭിച്ച ഇലവുംതിട്ട അശ്വതി മഹോത്സവം, അവിടെ നിന്നുള്ള അവകാശങ്ങൾക്കും സമത്വത്തിനും വേണ്ടി നടത്തിയ പോരാട്ടത്തിന്റെ പ്രതീകമാണ്. അതിനാൽ, ഈ ഉത്സവം അവർണ്ണ വിഭാഗങ്ങളുടെ ധീരമായ പ്രതിരോധത്തിന്റെ കഥയും പറയുന്നു. ഏകദേശം 500-ഓളം മലനടകൾ തെക്കൻ കേരളത്തിൽ ഇന്നും നിലനിൽക്കുന്നു. മലയപ്പൂപ്പനാണ് (മഹാദേവൻ) ഇവയുടെ ആരാധനാ മൂർത്തി. കുറവരുടെ പൂർവ്വിക, പ്രകൃതി ആരാധനാ കേന്ദ്രങ്ങളാണ് മലനടകൾ.
