Sri Kalleli Oorali Appoopankaavu is a historic temple situated in Kallelithottam, within the Konni region of the Pathanamthitta district in Kerala.
Sri Kalleli Oorali Appoopankaavu temple is located along the Kalleli–Achankovil forest route, approximately 19 kilometers (12 miles) from the district headquarters in Pathanamthitta and 9 kilometers (5.6 miles) from Konni. The principal deity worshipped at the temple is Oorali Appooppan, revered as the lord of the mountain gods. The temple's primary festival, known as Pathamudayam, begins on Vishu during the month of mēṭam in the Malayalam calendar.
The temple adheres to the customs and rituals of the ancient Dravida–Naga tribes, distinguishing itself from the conventional tantric practices and poojas typically observed in standard Hindu temples. The principal deities worshipped at this temple are Oorali Appooppan, also known as Kalleli Appooppan, and Oorali Ammoomma. Appooppan is revered as the lord of the 999 Mala Daivangal, or mountain gods, while Ammoomma is regarded as his mother.
Among the secondary deities present in the temple are Vadakkenchery Valyachan, Ganesha, Parashakti, Yakshiamma, Nagaraja, Nagayakshi, Raktharakshas, Kuttichathan, Kochukunju Arukala, Bharatha Poonkuravan, Bharatha Poonkurathi, and Harinarayana Thampuran.
The principal festival, known as Utsavam, is the Pathamudaya Mahotsavam, which takes place during the Malayalam month of mēṭam (April–May). This ten-day celebration commences on Vishu and concludes on Pathamudayam, which is the tenth sunrise following Vishu. The festival features various pujas and rituals, including Aditya Pongala. Additionally, another significant event is the Mandala–Makaravilakku festival, celebrated from the Malayalam month of vr̥ścikam to makaram (mid-November to mid-January).
Karkidaka Vavu Bali is a significant ritual conducted at the temple during the Malayalam month of Karkidakam (July–August). Other notable rituals include Aanayoottu (feeding of elephants), Vanarayoottu (feeding of monkeys), and Meenoottu (feeding of fish).
The temple is also distinguished by the traditional arts of the Dravida–Naga tribes, which encompass Kumbhapattu, Bharathakkali, Thalayattam Kali, Vellamkudi Nivedyam, Aazhi Puja, and Kalleli Vilakku. Additionally, ritualistic arts such as Padayani and Mudi-āttam are performed during special occasions.
ശ്രീ കല്ലേലി ഊരാളി അപ്പൂപ്പൻകാവ്
പത്തനംതിട്ട ജില്ലയിലെ കോന്നിക്ക് സമീപമുള്ള കല്ലേലിയിൽ അച്ചൻകോവിൽ നദിയുടെ തീരത്ത് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരു പുരാതന ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് ഊരാളി അപ്പൂപ്പൻകാവ്. കല്ലേലി - അച്ചൻകോവിൽ വനപാതയോട് ചേർന്ന് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം, ജില്ലാ ആസ്ഥാനമായ പത്തനംതിട്ടയിൽ നിന്നും 19 കി.മീ (12 മൈ) അകലെ, അടുത്ത പട്ടണമായ കോന്നിയിൽ നിന്നും 9 കി.മീ (5.6 മൈ) അകലെ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. കോന്നി താലൂക്കിലെ അരുവാപ്പുലം ഗ്രാമപഞ്ചായത്തിൽ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. മലദൈവങ്ങളുടെ അധിപനായി കരുതപ്പെടുന്ന 'ഊരാളി അപ്പൂപ്പൻ' ആണ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠ.
ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം ആദ്യകാല ദ്രാവിഡ-നാഗ ഗോത്രങ്ങളുടെ പാരമ്പര്യങ്ങളും ആചാരങ്ങളും അനുസരിച്ച് പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്നു, സാധാരണ ഹൈന്ദവ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ കാണുന്ന താന്ത്രിക പൂജാ രീതികളിൽ നിന്നും ഇത് വളരെ വ്യത്യസ്തമാണ്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠകൾ 'ഊരാളി അപ്പൂപ്പൻ' അല്ലെങ്കിൽ 'കല്ലേലി അപ്പൂപ്പൻ' കൂടാതെ 'ഊരാളി അമ്മൂമ്മ' എന്നിവയാണ്. അപ്പൂപ്പനെ 999 മലദൈവങ്ങളുടെ അധിപനായി കണക്കാക്കുന്നു, അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ അമ്മയായി അമ്മൂമ്മയെ ആരാധിക്കുന്നു.
വടക്കഞ്ചേരി വല്യച്ചൻ, ഗണപതി, പരാശക്തി, യക്ഷിയമ്മ, നാഗരാജാവ്, നാഗയക്ഷി, രക്തരക്ഷസ്സ്, കുട്ടിച്ചാത്തൻ, കൊച്ചുകുഞ്ഞ് അറുകല, ഭാരത പൂങ്കുറവൻ, ഭാരത പൂങ്കുറത്തി, ഹരിനാരായണ തമ്പുരാൻ എന്നിവയാണ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ മറ്റ് ഉപദേവതകൾ. മലയാള മാസമായ മേടത്തിൽ (ഏപ്രിൽ-മെയ്) നടക്കുന്ന പത്താമുദയ മഹോത്സവം ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ഉത്സവമാണ്. ഈ ഉത്സവം പത്ത് ദിവസങ്ങളോളം നീണ്ടുനിൽക്കുന്നു, വിഷു ദിനത്തിൽ ആരംഭിച്ച് പത്താമുദയ നാളിൽ വിവിധ പൂജകളും ആദിത്യ പൊങ്കാല പോലുള്ള ചടങ്ങുകളോടുകൂടി സമാപിക്കുന്നു.
വൃശ്ചികം മുതൽ മകരം വരെ (നവംബർ പകുതി മുതൽ ജനുവരി പകുതി വരെ) നടക്കുന്ന മണ്ഡല - മകരവിളക്ക് ഉത്സവം ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ മറ്റൊരു പ്രധാനമായ അവസരമാണ്. കർക്കടക മാസത്തിൽ (ജൂലൈ-ഓഗസ്റ്റ്) ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ നടക്കുന്ന പ്രധാന ചടങ്ങുകളിൽ ഒന്നാണ് കർക്കടക വാവ് ബലി. ആനയൂട്ട്, വാനരയൂട്ട്, മീനൂട്ട് എന്നിവയും ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ആചാരങ്ങളാണ്.
ദ്രാവിഡ-നാഗ ഗോത്രങ്ങളുടെ പരമ്പരാഗത കലകളായ കുംഭപ്പാട്ട്, ഭാരതക്കളി, തലയാട്ടം, വെള്ളംകുടി നിവേദ്യം, ആഴിപൂജ, കല്ലേലി വിളക്ക് എന്നിവയാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ പ്രത്യേകതകൾ. പടയണി, മുടിയാട്ടം തുടങ്ങിയ ആചാരപരമായ കലകളും പ്രത്യേക അവസരങ്ങളിൽ അവതരിപ്പിക്കാറുണ്ട്.
