Kottangal Devi Temple is situated 2 kilometers away from the town of Chungappara in the Pathanamthitta district.
Kottangal Devi Temple, located in Pathanamthitta, is renowned for its Padayani Mahotsavam. This festival commences with the Chutkukatthikal ceremony on Bharani day in the month of Dhanu and culminates in a grand procession on Bharani day in the month of Makara.
The primary musical instrument utilized during the Padayani is the Tappumelam. The temple also features various Kolams, including Yakshikolam, Palabhairavi, Arakiyakshi, Maruthakolam, Bishchikolam, Kalan Kolam, Bhairavi, and Maya Yakshi. The Kotangal Valiya Padayani marks a significant day for the artisans of Kulathur during the Padayan festival at the Bhadrakali temple. The Padayani and Tirumumpil Vela ceremonies are conducted in the presence of the local community.
Subsequently, the local residents will ceremonially take charge of the Kotangal locals. In the evening, a grand procession of the Kotangal Kara will take place at the Math, followed by the Vela at Thirumumpil and the Para at Thirumumpil on Kizhakkenada.
The Valiya Padayani is scheduled to commence at 12 PM, featuring 101 Pala Bhairavikolams. This will be followed by the arrival of 64, 32, and 16 Pala Bhairavis, along with Yakshi, Araki Yakshi, Maruta, Koota Maruta, Bukshi, and Kalan Kolams, as well as various entertainers in the vicinity.

പത്തനംതിട്ട ജില്ലയിലെ ചുങ്കപ്പാറ പട്ടണത്തിൽ നിന്ന് 2 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെയാണ് പ്രശസ്തമായ കോട്ടാങ്ങൽ ദേവി ക്ഷേത്രം. പത്തനംതിട്ടയിലെ കോട്ടാങ്ങൽ ദേവി ക്ഷേത്രം പടയണി മഹോത്സവത്തിന് ഏറെ പ്രശസ്തമാണ്. ധനുമാസത്തിലെ (ഡിസംബർ - ജനുവരി) ഭരണി നാളിൽ ചൂട്ടുകത്തിയ്ക്കൽ എന്ന ചടങ്ങോടെ ആരംഭിച്ച്, മകരമാസത്തിലെ (ജനുവരി - ഫെബ്രുവരി) ഭരണി നാളിൽ വല്യ പടയണിയോടെ സമാപിക്കും.
പടയണിയിൽ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്ന പ്രധാന ക്ഷേത്രവാദ്യമായ തപ്പുമേളമാണ്. കോട്ടാങ്ങലിൽ യക്ഷിക്കോലം, പാളഭൈരവി, അറക്കിയക്ഷി, മറുതക്കോലം, പക്ഷിക്കോലം, കാലൻ കോലം, ഭൈരവി, മായ യക്ഷി തുടങ്ങിയ വിവിധ കോലങ്ങൾ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു.
കോട്ടാങ്ങൽ∙ ഭദ്രകാളി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പടയണി ഉത്സവത്തിൽ കുളത്തൂർ കരക്കാരുടെ വലിയ പടയണി, തിരുമുമ്പിൽ വേല, പടയണി ചടങ്ങുകൾ എന്നിവ കരക്കാരുടെ സാന്നിധ്യത്തിൽ ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു.
ആചാരപരമായി, പടയണി കോട്ടാങ്ങൽ കരക്കാർ ഏറ്റെടുക്കും. കോട്ടാങ്ങൽ കരയുടെ വലിയ പടയണി ദിനം, വൈകിട്ട് മഠത്തിൽ വേല, തുടർന്ന് കിഴക്കേനടയിൽ തിരുമുമ്പിൽ വേല, തിരുമുമ്പിൽ പറ എന്നിവ നടക്കും. രാത്രി 12 മണിക്ക് വലിയ പടയണി ആരംഭിക്കും. 101 പാള ഭൈരവിക്കോലം, തുടർന്ന് 64, 32, 16 പാള ഭൈരവികൾ, യക്ഷി, അരക്കി യക്ഷി, മറുത, കൂട്ട മറുത, പക്ഷി, കാലൻ എന്നീ കോലങ്ങളും വിനോദങ്ങളും കളത്തിൽ എത്തുന്നു.
