Sree Madathumpadi Devi Temple is located in Madathumpady, Naranganam, within the Pathanamthitta district, is dedicated to Goddess Devi, who is the principal deity of this sacred site.
Padayani festival is celebrated annually as part of the harvest season, serving as a gesture of gratitude for the year's bountiful yield. The festivities at Naranganam commence with the offering of Noottiyonnukalam Padachoru, which consists of pongala prepared in 101 pots, dedicated to the Goddess.
As is customary in most Padayani celebrations, the rituals initiate with Chootu vaipu on the first day. The second day features Pacha Thappu, crafted from fresh jackfruit tree wood and adorned with buffalo hide, followed by Adavi, which is accompanied by Thappu Melam. On this same day, the Kolam performance also begins. The sixth day is marked by Edappadayani, while the eighth day is reserved for Valiya Padayani, also referred to as the koottakkolam performance, where various types of padayani kolams are showcased in a traditional procession.
The culmination of the Padayani festival at the Madathilkavu Devi temple is signified by the Mangala Bhairavi kolam, succeeded by the Pooppada on the tenth day. At Naranganam, various kolams are showcased, including those dedicated to Ganapathy, Marutha, Yakshi, Madan, Kuthira, Arakki Yakshi, Kaalan, and the splendid Bhairavi Kolams. The festivities also feature comic interludes such as Paradeshi, Pulavritham, and Kummi, alongside performances of Velakali and Thavadi.
Notably, the Kalan Kolam, which is regarded as the most prestigious among the kolams, is performed at Naranganam and is inspired by the Markandeya Charitham, a narrative from the Puranas detailing the tale of Sage Markandeya, who was rescued from death by Lord Siva.

പത്തനംതിട്ട ജില്ലയുടെ കോഴഞ്ചേരി താലൂക്കിൽ, നാരങ്ങാനം ഗ്രാമപഞ്ചായത്തിൽ, കക്കണ്ണി പാറയുടെയും കീരിപ്പാറയുടെയും മധ്യത്തിൽ, ഹൃഷികേശ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനു തെക്ക്, കോഴഞ്ചേരി മണ്ണാറക്കുളഞ്ഞി ശബരിമല പാതയോട് ചേർന്ന് നാരങ്ങാനം മഠത്തുംപടി ദേവീ ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു.
ശ്രീ മാടത്തുംപടി ദേവീ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ, കൊയ്ത്തുകാലത്തിൻറെ ഭാഗമായി, എല്ലാ വർഷവും പടയണി ഉത്സവം ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു.
വർഷത്തിലെ മികച്ച വിളവെടുപ്പിനുള്ള നന്ദി സൂചകമായി, നാരങ്ങാനത്ത് പടയണി ആരംഭിക്കുന്നത് ദേവിക്ക് നൂറ്റിയൊന്നുകളം പടച്ചോറു (101 കലകളിൽ പൊങ്കാല) സമർപ്പിച്ചുകൊണ്ടാണ്. മിക്കവാറും എല്ലാ പടയണി ഉത്സവങ്ങളുടെയും പോലെ, ഇവിടെ ആചാരങ്ങൾ ആദ്യ ദിവസം ചൂട്ട് വൈപ്പോടിയിലൂടെ ആരംഭിക്കുന്നു. രണ്ടാം ദിവസം പച്ച തപ്പ് (പ്ലാവിന്റെ പുതിയ തടി ഉപയോഗിച്ച് എരുമത്തോൽ കൊണ്ട് പൊതിഞ്ഞ തപ്പ്) തുടർന്ന് അടവി തപ്പു മേളയുടെ അകമ്പടിയോടെ നടക്കും.
അന്നുതന്നെ കോലം അവതരണവും ആരംഭിക്കും. ആറാം ദിവസം ഇടപ്പടയണി, എട്ടാം ദിവസം വലിയ പടയണി ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു. ഇവിടെ വലിയ പടയണിയെ കൂട്ടക്കോലം എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്നു, അതിൽ എല്ലാ തരത്തിലുള്ള പടയണി കോലങ്ങളും ഒരു പതിവ് ഘോഷയാത്രയിൽ അണിനിരക്കും.
മഠത്തിൽകാവ് ദേവീക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പടയണി മഹോത്സവത്തിന് സമാപനം കുറിച്ച് പത്താം ദിവസം പൂപ്പടയും, തുടർന്ന് മംഗളഭൈരവി കോലവും നടക്കും.
നാരങ്ങാനത്ത് അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്ന കോലങ്ങളിൽ ഗണപതി, മറുത, യക്ഷി, മാടൻ, കുതിര, അരക്കി യക്ഷി, കാളൻ, ഗംഭീരമായ ഭൈരവി കോലങ്ങൾ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നു. പരദേശി, പുലവൃത്തം, കുമ്മി എന്നിവ നാരങ്ങാനത്തിലെ കോമിക് ഇന്റർവെലുകളായി കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. വേലകളിയും താവടിയും ഇവിടെ അരങ്ങേറുന്നു.
പുരാണങ്ങളിലെ മാർക്കണ്ഡേയ മഹർഷിയുടെ കഥയെ അടിസ്ഥാനമാക്കി, നാരങ്ങാനത്ത് രാജപദവിയുള്ള കാലൻ കോലം അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. മാർക്കണ്ഡേയനെ ശിവൻ മരണത്തിന്റെ പിടിയിൽ നിന്ന് രക്ഷിച്ചതാണ് ഐതിഹ്യം.
