Pannivizha Sri Mahadeva (Dakshinamurthy) temple is situated within the urban boundaries of Adoor, in the Pathanamthitta district.
The principal deity is Sri Dakshinamurthy. Additionally, the sub-deities, including Bijaganapati, Moolaganapati, Nagaraja, Nagayakshi, Rakshas, and Yogeeshwar, are also honored with their own temples. According to legend, during the reign of the Chera kings, the temple faced an assault, resulting in its destruction by arsonists.
It is said that a magnificent golden flagpole once stood at the temple, which was lowered into the pond during the attack. This pond is known as Valiyakulam Aarattukulam, located on the eastern side of the temple. In the temple courtyard, one can observe a large ancient hearth stone, which attempts to lift have been made multiple times, all of which were unsuccessful. The ancients claim that a tunnel lies beneath this stone. If thumpapoovu is placed upon the head of Lord Mars, it is said that one will soon experience a change and enter into marriage.
According to those with experience, performing this offering for twelve consecutive Mondays guarantees a favorable outcome. It is also believed that the application of oil in this context can lead to the healing of skin and stomach ailments. Additionally, Jaranivedya is conducted to ensure the well-being of individuals suffering from illnesses such as fever and typhoid.
On the eastern side of Chembol lies the temple dedicated to the Unnithans. During the reign of King Kayamkulam, a fort was established in the vicinity, which is now referred to as Kottapuram. An eight-day festival featuring Aarattu is celebrated on Tiruvathira day in the month of Meenam.

പത്തനംതിട്ട ജില്ലയിലെ അടൂർ നഗരത്തിന്റെ അതിരുകളിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന പ്രശസ്തമായ പന്നിവിഴ ശ്രീ മഹാദേവ (ദക്ഷിണാമൂർത്തി) ക്ഷേത്രം, പടിഞ്ഞാറ് കോട്ടപ്പുറവും കിഴക്ക് ഐക്കാടും വടക്ക് തട്ടയും തെക്ക് അടൂരിനാലും ചുറ്റപ്പെട്ട ഒരു പ്രദേശത്തിലാണ്. ചരിത്രത്തിന്റെ സ്മരണകൾ നിലനിൽക്കുന്ന ഈ സ്ഥലം, ചേരരാജാക്കന്മാരുടെ കാലത്ത് ആക്രമണങ്ങൾ നേരിട്ടിരുന്നു.
തീവെട്ടിക്കൊള്ളക്കാർ ക്ഷേത്രത്തെ നശിപ്പിച്ചതിന്റെ കഥകൾ പുരാവൃത്തങ്ങളിൽ ഉണ്ട്. പണ്ടുകാലത്ത് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ വലിയ സ്വർണ്ണക്കൊടിമരം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നുവെന്നും, അതിനെ ആക്രമണ സമയത്ത് കുളത്തിൽ താഴ്ത്തിയതായും വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ കിഴക്ക് ഭാഗത്ത് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന വലിയകുളം, ആറാട്ടുകുളമായി അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രമുറ്റത്ത് കാണുന്ന പുരാതനമായ വലിയ അടുപ്പ്കല്ല്, പലപ്രാവശ്യം ഉയർത്താൻ ശ്രമിച്ചിട്ടും വിജയിച്ചിട്ടില്ല. പഴമക്കാർ പറയുന്നത്, ഇതിന് അടിയിലൂടെ ഒരു തുരങ്കമുണ്ടെന്നാണ്.
ശ്രീ ദക്ഷിണാമൂർത്തി ആണ് മുഖ്യദേവത. ഉപദേവതകളായി ബീജഗണപതി, മൂലഗണപതി, നാഗരാജാവ്, നാഗയക്ഷി, രക്ഷസ്, യോഗീശ്വരൻ എന്നിവരുടെ കോവിലുകൾ നിലവിലുണ്ട്. തുമ്പപ്പൂ ഭഗവാന്റെ തലയിൽ ചാർത്തിയാൽ ചൊവ്വാദോഷമുള്ള യുവതികൾക്ക് അതിലൂടെ വേഗത്തിൽ വിവാഹം നടക്കുമെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു. പന്ത്രണ്ട് തിങ്കളാഴ്ച തുടർച്ചയായി ഈ പ്രക്രിയ നടത്തുകയാണെങ്കിൽ, ഫലം ഉറപ്പായിരിക്കും എന്ന് അനുഭവമുള്ളവർ പറയുന്നു.
ഇവിടെ ആടിയ എണ്ണ ഉപയോഗിച്ചാൽ ത്വക്ക് രോഗങ്ങളും ഉദരരോഗങ്ങളും മാറുമെന്ന് വിശ്വാസമുണ്ട്. കൂടാതെ, പനി, സന്നിപാതജ്വരം തുടങ്ങിയ രോഗങ്ങൾ ബാധിച്ചവരുടെ ശാന്തിക്കായി ജരനിവേദ്യവും നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. ചെമ്പോലിൽ കിഴക്കേതിൽ ഉണ്ണിത്താന്മാരുടെ ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. കായംകുളം രാജാവിന്റെ കാലത്ത് ഇവിടെ ഒരു കോട്ട ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു, ഈ പ്രദേശം കോട്ടപ്പുറം എന്ന പേരിൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. മീനമാസത്തിലെ തിരുവാതിര നാളിൽ ആറാട്ടോടുകൂടിയ എട്ടുദിവസത്തെ ഉത്സവം ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു.
