Thirumalida Swayambhoo Mahadeva Temple is a renowned temple located in the southern region of Kerala, dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple is situated on the picturesque eastern bank of the Manimala River in Mallappally, within the Pathanamthitta District of Kerala, India.
It is noteworthy that this is the only Swayambhoo Temple oriented towards the West, situated along the banks of a river. The Temple can be reached by road from Mallappally and surrounding villages, located 15 kilometers from Thiruvalla. The closest railway stations are in Thiruvalla and Changanacherry.
Thirumalida Mahadeva Temple is renowned for its stunning and mystical appearance, reminiscent of the famous Kashi Vishwanath Temple. During the month of Karkidakam (July-August), the Temple attracts thousands of pilgrims who come to perform Karkkidaka Vavubali. Additionally, it is among the few temples that celebrate Shivarathri on the sandy riverbanks, coinciding with the period when the flow of the Manimala River is at its lowest.
During the annual Maha Shivarathri festival, numerous devoted individuals from various regions gather day and night to witness the Mallappally Kavadiyattam on the sandy banks of the Manimala. This event is one of the most captivating and enchanting festivals of the Temple, featuring caparisoned elephants, diverse pageantry, and, most importantly, the enthralling drum beats and Kavadi Thullal performed by devotees who have vowed to offer sacrifices and express gratitude to Lord Shiva.
തീരുമാലിട മഹാദേവ ക്ഷേത്രം
പത്തനംതിട്ട ജില്ലയിലെ തിരുവല്ലയിൽ നിന്നും കല്ലൂപ്പാറ വഴി 16.4 കിലോമീറ്ററും, മല്ലപ്പള്ളിയിൽ നിന്നും 1.3 കിലോമീറ്ററും ദൂരത്തിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നതാണ് തീരമാലിട മഹാദേവ ക്ഷേത്രം. മണിമല നദിയുടെ കിഴക്കൻ തീരത്ത് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. തിരുമാലിട സ്വയംഭൂ മഹാദേവ ക്ഷേത്രം, കേരളത്തിലെ തെക്കൻ ഭാഗത്ത് ഏറ്റവും പ്രശസ്തമായ ശിവക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നായി കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. നദിയുടെ തീരത്ത് പടിഞ്ഞാറോട്ട് ദർശനമുള്ള ഏക സ്വയംഭൂ ക്ഷേത്രമാണിത്. കർക്കിടക മാസത്തിൽ ആയിരക്കണക്കിന് തീർത്ഥാടകർ കർക്കിടക വാവുബലി അർപ്പിക്കാൻ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലേക്ക് എത്തുന്നു.
മണൽ നിറഞ്ഞ നദീതടങ്ങളിൽ ശിവരാത്രി ആഘോഷിക്കുന്ന ചില ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നാണ് ഇത്. മണിമലയുടെ മണൽ നിറഞ്ഞ നദീതടത്തിൽ നടക്കുന്ന മല്ലപ്പള്ളി കാവടിയാട്ടം കാണാൻ ദൂരദേശങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നുള്ള നിരവധി ഭക്തർ ഇവിടെ ഒത്തുകൂടുന്നു, ഇത് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും മനോഹരവും ആകർഷകവുമായ ഉത്സവങ്ങളിലൊന്നായി കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ശിവന് ബലിയർപ്പണവും കൃതജ്ഞതയും നേർന്ന ഭക്തരുടെ കാവടി തുള്ളലും അതിന്റെ പ്രധാന ആകർഷണമാണ്. മേളവിസ്മയങ്ങളും മനസ്സിനെ മയക്കുന്ന അനുഭവങ്ങളാണ്.
