Thrikkalanjoor Sree Mahadeva Temple is a place of worship for Hindus. It is located 80 kilometers southwest of the Sabarimala temple, situated along the Punalur-Muvattupuzha highway in the Pathanamthitta district of Kerala.
A majestic banyan tree, flanked by an Althara that is visible from a distance for any traveler on the main road, announces the presence of the temple to the devotee.
A Mandapam artistically etched with magnificent mural paintings announcing the prowess of artists and artisans of yore surrounds the banyan tree. Inside the Mandapam there is an idol of Nataraja, the dancing manifestation of Lord Shiva, facing the east.
From this Mandapam towards the west, a 60 feet high Gopuram (artistically carved towering arches) could be seen on the eastern side. The 18 ascending steps from the Gopuram lead to the sacred idols of Indiliyappan (Sastha) and the Mahasiva idol, which is the presiding deity of the Mahadeva temple. The temple features the unique presence of both Mahadeva and Sastha idols, resulting in two Dhwajas (tall flagpoles adorned with copper) positioned closely together, a sight that is uncommon in other temples.
In this temple, the Mahasiva idol and the Sastha idols are oriented to face one another. While the official name of the temple is Sankarapurathu Mukkalvattom Devaswom, it is widely recognized as the Thrikkalanjoor Sree Mahadeva temple. The yearly temple festival commences in the Malayalam month of Meenam (March/April) and concludes with the Thiruvathira Arattu. This celebration spans a duration of eight days. The sixth day is marked by the Indilayappan festival.
Esteemed artists from South India take part in this event, which is particularly renowned for its performances of Carnatic music. Notable figures in the realm of Carnatic music, such as Chembai, Chemmankudi, Balamuralee Krishna, Yesudas, and Seshagopal, have graced this festival with their performances. Additionally, Kathakali and various other classical art forms serve as significant attractions during the festivities.
Kalamezhuthum Pattum dedicated to Indiliyappan (Sastha) and the 41-day bhajan held during Mandalapooja in December and January, along with Shivarathri, Ashtamirohini, and Bhagavatha Sapthaham in the Malayalam month of Dhanu (January and February), as well as Ramayana masam, Vinayaka Chathurthi, Ponkala, and Pathamudayam, represent several significant festive events celebrated throughout the year.
തൃക്കലഞ്ഞൂർ ശ്രീ മഹാദേവ ക്ഷേത്രം
മഹാദേവ ക്ഷേത്രം, കലഞ്ഞൂർ തൃക്കലഞ്ഞൂർ എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ഈ ഹൈന്ദവ ക്ഷേത്രം, കേരളത്തിലെ പത്തനംതിട്ട ജില്ലയിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. പുനലൂർ - മൂവാറ്റുപുഴ ഹൈവേയിൽ ശബരിമല ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് തെക്ക്-പടിഞ്ഞാറ് 80 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെയാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം. പ്രധാന റോഡിൽ യാത്ര വ്യക്തിക്ക് ദൂരെ നിന്ന് കാണാവുന്ന ഒരു ആൽത്തറയാൽ ചുറ്റപ്പെട്ട ആകർഷകമായ ആൽമരം, ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ സാന്നിധ്യം ഭക്തനോട് അറിയിക്കുന്നു.
ആൽമരത്തിന്റെ ചുറ്റുപാടിൽ പഴയകാല കലാകാരന്മാരുടെയും കരകൗശല വിദഗ്ധരുടെയും കഴിവുകൾ പ്രതിഫലിപ്പിക്കുന്ന മനോഹരമായ മ്യൂറൽ പെയിന്റിംഗുകൾ കൊണ്ട് അലങ്കരിച്ച ഒരു മണ്ഡപം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. ഈ മണ്ഡപത്തിന്റെ കിഴക്കേ ഭാഗത്ത് ശിവന്റെ നൃത്ത രൂപമായ നടരാജ വിഗ്രഹം ഉണ്ട്. മണ്ഡപത്തിൽ നിന്ന് പടിഞ്ഞാറ് കിഴക്കോട്ട് 60 അടി ഉയരമുള്ള ഒരു ഗോപുരം കാണാം, ഇത് കലാപരമായി കൊത്തിയെടുത്ത ഉയർന്ന കമാനങ്ങൾ കൊണ്ട് അലങ്കരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
ഗോപുരത്തിൽ കയറുന്ന 18 പടികൾ ഇണ്ടിലിയപ്പന്റെ (ശാസ്താവിന്റെ) വിശുദ്ധ വിഗ്രഹങ്ങളിലേക്കും മഹാദേവ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ മഹാശിവ വിഗ്രഹത്തിലേക്കും നയിക്കുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ മഹാദേവനും ശാസ്താ വിഗ്രഹങ്ങളും ഉള്ളതിനാൽ, രണ്ട് ധ്വജങ്ങൾ (ചെമ്പ് പൂശിയ ഉയർന്ന കൊടിമരങ്ങൾ) അടുത്തായി നിലകൊള്ളുന്നു, ഇത് മറ്റ് ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ അപൂർവമായി കാണപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു പ്രത്യേക കാഴ്ചയാണ്. മഹാശിവ വിഗ്രഹവും ശാസ്താ വിഗ്രഹവും ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ അഭിമുഖമായി സ്ഥാപിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ യഥാർത്ഥ പേര് ശങ്കരപുരം മുക്കൽവട്ടം ദേവസ്വം എന്നാണെങ്കിലും, ഇത് തൃക്കലഞ്ഞൂർ ശ്രീ മഹാദേവ ക്ഷേത്രം എന്ന പേരിൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. വാർഷിക ക്ഷേത്രോത്സവം മലയാള മാസമായ മീനത്തിൽ (മാർച്ച്/ഏപ്രിൽ) ആരംഭിച്ച് തിരുവാതിര ആറാട്ടോടെ സമാപിക്കും. ഈ ഉത്സവം എട്ട് ദിവസങ്ങളോളം നീണ്ടുനിൽക്കുന്നു. ആറാം ദിവസമാണ് ഇണ്ടിളയപ്പൻ ഉത്സവം. ദക്ഷിണേന്ത്യയിൽ നിന്നുള്ള പ്രശസ്ത കലാകാരന്മാർ ഈ ഉത്സവത്തിൽ പങ്കാളികളാകുന്നു, ഇത് കർണാടക സംഗീതത്തിന്റെ അവതരണത്തിന് പ്രശസ്തമാണ്.
ചെമ്പൈ, ചെമ്മൻകുടി, ബാലമുരളീ കൃഷ്ണ, യേശുദാസ്, ശേഷഗോപാൽ തുടങ്ങിയ കർണാടക സംഗീതത്തിലെ മഹാന്മാർ ഇവിടെ പ്രകടനം നടത്തുന്നു. കഥകളി, മറ്റ് ക്ലാസിക്കൽ കലകൾ എന്നിവ ഉത്സവകാലത്തെ പ്രധാന ആകർഷണങ്ങളാണ്. ശാസ്താവിന് കളമെഴുത്തും പാട്ടും, മണ്ഡലപൂജ സമയത്ത് 41 ദിവസത്തെ ഭജനയും (ഡിസംബർ/ജനുവരി), ശിവരാത്രി, അഷ്ടമിരോഹിണി, ധനു മാസത്തിലെ ഭാഗവത സപ്താഹം (ജനുവരി/ഫെബ്രുവരി), രാമായണമാസം, വിനായക ചതുർത്ഥി എന്നിവയാണ് ശ്രദ്ധേയമായ ഉത്സവങ്ങൾ.
