Kottappuram Siva Temple is one of the 108 revered Shiva temples in India, and is located near the famous Vadakkunnathan Temple in Thrissur, Kerala.
This ancient temple holds great spiritual significance and is believed to have been consecrated by Lord Parashurama, the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu, who is credited with creating the land of Kerala and establishing many temples across the region. Lord Shiva, the presiding deity of this temple, is worshipped in his Shivalinga form, which symbolizes the infinite cosmic energy and the formless aspect of the divine.
Devotees revere him as the Supreme Lord who governs destruction and transformation, paving the way for regeneration and positive change. At this temple, Lord Shiva is known for his benevolent yet powerful presence, offering protection, blessings, and liberation to his devotees. Maha Shivaratri, the most important festival celebrated at the Kottappuram Siva Temple, is observed with profound devotion and grandeur.

കോട്ടപ്പുറം ശിവക്ഷേത്രം
തൃശ്ശൂർ നഗരത്തിൽ വടക്കുംനാഥക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് കുറച്ചുദൂരം പടിഞ്ഞാറായി സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരു പുരാതന ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് കോട്ടപ്പുറം ശിവക്ഷേത്രം. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം നൂറ്റെട്ടു ശിവക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നായി വിശേഷിപ്പിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠ പരമശിവനാണ്, കിഴക്കോട്ടാണ് ദർശനദിശ.ഐതിഹ്യപ്രകാരം, ശ്രീപരശുരാമൻ ആണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ പ്രതിഷ്ഠ നിർവഹിച്ചതെന്ന് പറയപ്പെടുന്നു. എന്നാല്‍ അതിനൊപ്പം തന്നെ, ഇവിടെ ഉള്ളത് ഒരു സ്വയംഭൂ ശിവലിംഗം ആണെന്നും വിശ്വാസമുണ്ട്.
തറനിരപ്പിൽ നിന്ന് കുറച്ച് മാത്രം ഉയരമുള്ള ഈ ചെറിയ ശിവലിംഗം വളരെ ദിവ്യമായ ദർശനമായാണ് നിലകൊള്ളുന്നത്. ശിവന്റെ പിന്നിൽ പാർവതീദേവിയുടെ സങ്കല്പപ്രതിഷ്ഠയും സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. ഉപദേവതകളായി ഗണപതി, അയ്യപ്പൻ, നാഗദേവതകൾ, കൂടാതെ ബ്രഹ്മരക്ഷസ്സ് എന്നിവിടത്തും പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം, പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് മഹാശിവരാത്രി, പ്രതിഷ്ഠാദിനം, കാർത്തിക, ആവണി തുടങ്ങിയ ദിവസങ്ങളിൽ ഇത് വലിയ ഭക്തിസാന്ദ്രതയോടെ ആഘോഷിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.
