Manikanda Temple is one of the rare temples in Kerala where the Ashtanaga Prathishta is present.
These eight serpent gods — Anantha, Vasuki, Takshaka, Karkotaka, Shankhapala, Gulika, Padma, and Mahapadma — are highly revered in Hindu tradition, particularly in Kerala, for their spiritual and healing powers. The temple is an important spiritual center for those seeking relief from Sarpa Dosha (serpent-related afflictions) and blessings for fertility, well-being, and removal of obstacles in life. Devotees believe that worshipping at such shrines with pure devotion can bring harmony, health, and prosperity to the family, especially in matters related to progeny and mental peace.
Major rituals and offerings at the temple include Manjal Ottu (offering turmeric to the serpent deities), Naga Pooja, Noorum Palum, Sarpa Sukta Pushpanjali, and Navoru Patal (a ritualistic chant for snake deities). Among the most important ceremonies is the Sarpabali, a detailed and powerful ritual conducted to appease the serpent gods. This ritual is believed to help those suffering from unexplained misfortunes, childlessness, or ancestral curses. The temple maintains a sacred and serene atmosphere during these rituals, drawing devotees from across the state who come with deep faith and hope for divine grace.

മണികണ്ഠ ക്ഷേത്രം കേരളത്തിലെ അപൂര്‍വ്വമായ അഷ്ടനാഗ പ്രതിഷ്ഠകളില്‍ ഒന്നാണ്. അനന്തന്‍, വാസുകി, തക്ഷകന്‍, കര്‍ക്കോടകന്‍, ശംഖപാലന്‍, ഗുളികന്‍, പദ്മന്‍, മഹാപദ്മന്‍ എന്നീ എട്ട് പ്രധാന സര്‍പ്പദേവന്മാരാണ് ഇവിടെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിതരായിരിക്കുന്നത്. അഷ്ടനാഗങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് പ്രത്യേക സ്ഥാനമുളള ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം സര്‍പ്പദോഷം നീക്കാനും സന്താനഭാഗ്യത്തിനും ശാന്തിയും ഐശ്വര്യവും പ്രാപിക്കാനുമുള്ള ഒരു വിശേഷായ സന്നിധിയാണെന്ന് ഭക്തർ വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന വഴിപാടുകളിൽ മഞ്ഞളാടല്‍, നാഗപൂജ, നൂറും പാലും, സര്‍പ്പസൂക്തപുഷ്പാഞ്ജലി, നവോറ് പാടല്‍, സര്‍പ്പബലി എന്നിവ പ്രധാനമാണ്. സര്‍പ്പബലി എന്നത് വളരെ പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ട ഒരു കര്‍മ്മമാണ്, ഇതിലൂടെ ഭക്തർക്ക് അനിഷ്ടഫലങ്ങള്‍ അകറ്റാനും സര്‍പ്പദോഷം നീക്കാനും കഴിയുമെന്നാണ് വിശ്വാസം.
