Altara Bhagavathy Temple is situated at Althara Junction in Malayinkeezhu village, approximately 12 kilometers east of Thampanoor in the Thiruvananthapuram district. This temple is dedicated to Durga Parameswari.
Althara Sri Bhagavathy Temple, located in Malayinkeezhu, is renowned for its miraculous occurrences and the beliefs associated with them. Revered as the Adi Parashakti in various manifestations, Amma is believed to cure the ailments of all devotees who seek her refuge, serving as the benevolent grantor of children. The administrative responsibilities of the temple are managed by the Althara Bhagavathy Temple Trust. Durga Bhagavathy, also referred to as Durga Parameshwari, is regarded as the principal deity of Vayakkal Desam.
In Hindu tradition and the Shakti philosophy, Durga is celebrated as Adi Shakti, the universal mother. Devotees of Shakti hold the belief that all other goddesses and the divine trinity are various incarnations of Durga, which is why she is often referred to as Mahadevi. Furthermore, Durga is considered Mahashakthiswarupini, embodying the primary aspect of Adiparashakti, the primordial goddess. Goddess Durga serves as a guardian of safety, a source of liberation from fear, and a provider of strength to endure hardships. She assists during challenging times, bestows wealth and prosperity, vanquishes malevolent forces, and grants success in life. Additionally, she offers salvation, embodies compassion, and bestows maternal affection.
All significant occasions are commemorated within the temple, including Thrikkarthika, Vinayaka Chathurthi, Poojavaypu, and Vidyarambham (Navarathri Days), as well as Ayilyampooja and the Mandalam period in Vrischikam.
ആൽത്തറ ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രം
