The renowned Altharamood Sri Krishna Temple is situated in Chirayinkeezhu, a significant location in the historic region of Travancore, celebrated for being the birthplace of illustrious artists Premnazeer and Bharatgopi. Chirayinkeez is located 33 kilometers from Thiruvananthapuram, with the temple itself positioned just one kilometer from the town. Limited information is available regarding the temple, which is relatively small in size.
Despite the absence of grand arches, mandapas, walls, or an extensive temple complex, the Altharamood Sri Krishna Temple in Chirayinkeez remains a revered site where numerous devotees gather to receive the blessings of Lord Krishna. The recitation of the Bhagavatam, Thiruvonam in the month of Chingam, Vinayaka Chaturthi, Puja during Kanni, Ayilyampuja in the month of Thulam, the Mandala period commencing on the 1st of Vruschikam, Ramayana month in Vaishaka, Ashtamirohini, Vishu in April, Makarasamkranti, and Ekadashi are the principal special days observed at the temple. എല്ലാ വിശേഷദിവസങ്ങളും ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ ആഘോഷിക്കുന്നു. ഭാഗവത സപ്താഹം, ചിങ്ങത്തിലെ തിരുവോണം, വിനായക ചതുർത്ഥി, കന്നിയിലെ പൂജവയ്പ്പ്, വിദ്യാരംഭം, തുലാമാസത്തിലെ ആയില്യംപൂജ, വൃശ്ചികം ഒന്നുമുതൽ മണ്ഡലകാലം, കർക്കിടക മാസത്തിൽ രാമായണമാസം, വൈശാഖമാസത്തിൽ നരസിംഹ ജയന്തി, ചിങ്ങമാസത്തിൽ അഷ്ടമിരോഹിണി, മേടമാസത്തിൽ വിഷു, പത്താമുദയം, മകരസംക്രാന്തി എന്നിവയോടൊപ്പം എല്ലാ മാസങ്ങളിലും രോഹിണി ഊട്ട്, ഏകാദശി എന്നിവയും ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന വിശേഷ ദിവസങ്ങളാണ്. വർഷത്തിൽ 9 മാസവും ഇവിടെ ആഘോഷങ്ങൾ നടക്കുന്നു.
പഞ്ചസാര നിവേദ്യം, പാല്‍പ്പായസ നിവേദ്യം, വെണ്ണ, മഞ്ഞപ്പട്ട് ചാർത്തൽ, അവലും മലരും പഴവുമെല്ലാം പ്രധാന വഴിപാടുകളാണ്. കൃഷ്ണന്റെ ഇഷ്ടനിവേദ്യങ്ങൾ വെണ്ണയും പാല്‍പ്പായസവും ആണ്.
