Ananthankad Sri Nagaraja Temple (അനന്തൻകാട് ശ്രീ നാഗരാജ ക്ഷേത്രം) is located within the fort to the northwest of Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple, approximately one kilometer from Thiruvananthapuram East Fort.
Lord Sri Anantha, recognized as the foremost among the eight great Serpent Gods, is revered in this location as Naga Raja, the Sovereign of Serpents. This temple is also regarded as the birthplace of the Sree Padmanabha Swami Temple.
Sri Anantha, who serves as a resting place for the Lord of the three worlds, is situated within the Fort at Thiruvananthapuram, to the northwest of the Sri Padmanabha Swami Temple.
A minor error made by the Vilwamangalam Swamiyar led him into Ananthankadu, a dense forest. Vilwamangalam was a distinguished sage with profound insights into the Krishnavathara.
He conducted elaborate Poojas each morning. One day, a young boy visited his home and offered to assist him. Captivated by the child's delightful presence, the sage assigned him minor tasks related to the rituals. However, as time went on, the boy became increasingly playful, disrupting the Poojas. The Swamiyar grew frustrated, and in a moment of weakness, he pushed the child aside with a backhanded gesture.The child disappeared without a trace. "If you wish to see me again, come to Ananthankadu"—these words resonated in the air. The sorrowful sage wandered extensively in search of the forest and eventually arrived at Ananthapuri.
While resting in a farmyard known as Putharikandam, he overheard a distressed farmer woman scolding her child, saying, "If you continue to cry, I will throw you into Ananthankadu." The sage immediately sprang to his feet and hurried to the scene. There, the supreme Lord of the Universe manifested before him as AnanthaPadmanabha. In complete reverence, Vilwamangalam Swamiyar became entranced. Driven by a deep desire to present Naivedya to the Lord, he scanned his surroundings. The only offering he found was a small, tender mango. He seized it, placed it in an empty coconut shell, and presented it to his Lord as Naivedya.Mahalakshmi, Ganapathi, Naga Lakshmi, Naga Kanyaka, Brahma Rakshassu, Siva, Hanuman, Dhanwanthari, Sastha, Saraswathy, and Mahakali are all considered subdeities.

ശ്രീ അനന്തൻ, ത്രിലോകനാഥനോട് സമർപ്പിതനായ ശയ്യയായി, തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തെ കോട്ടയിൽ ശ്രീപദ്മനാഭ സ്വാമി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് വടക്ക് പടിഞ്ഞാറായി സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. വില്വമംഗലം സ്വാമിയാർ നടത്തിയ ചെറിയ പിഴവാണ് അനന്തൻകാട് എന്ന കൊടുംവനത്തിലേക്ക് അദ്ദേഹത്തെ വലിച്ചിഴച്ചത്. കൃഷ്ണാവതാരത്തെക്കുറിച്ച് വ്യക്തമായ കാഴ്ചപ്പാടുള്ള മഹാനായ ദർശകനായിരുന്നു വില്വമംഗലം സ്വാമിയാർ. അദ്ദേഹം എല്ലാ ദിവസവും രാവിലെ വിശദമായ പൂജകൾ നടത്താറുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ഒരു ദിവസം, ഒരു കൊച്ചുകുട്ടി സ്വാമിയാരുടെ വീട്ടിൽ എത്തി, ഒരു സഹായിയായി സ്വയം വാഗ്ദാനം ചെയ്തു. കുട്ടിയുടെ ആകർഷണീയമായ സാന്നിധ്യത്തിൽ ആകൃഷ്ടനായ സ്വാമിയാർ, അവനെ ആചാരങ്ങളുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട ചെറിയ ജോലികൾക്ക് നിയോഗിച്ചു. എന്നാൽ, ദിവസങ്ങൾ കടന്നുപോകുമ്പോൾ, കുട്ടി ഇതിന് പ്രാധാന്യം നൽകാതെ, കൊച്ചുകുട്ടികളുടെ പോലെ കളിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു.
ഒരു കാലത്ത് പൂജയ്ക്കായി സൂക്ഷിച്ചിരുന്ന വിഗ്രഹം അശുദ്ധമാക്കപ്പെട്ടു. സ്വാമിയാർ അതിൽ പ്രകോപിതനായി. ഒരു ദുർബ്ബല നിമിഷത്തിൽ അയാൾ കുട്ടിയെ പിന്നിലേക്ക് തള്ളിയിട്ടു. കുട്ടി വായുവിൽ അപ്രത്യക്ഷമായി. "നിങ്ങൾക്ക് എന്നെ വീണ്ടും കാണണമെങ്കിൽ അനന്തൻകാട്ടിലേക്ക് വരൂ" - ഈ വാക്കുകൾ അവിടെ പ്രതിധ്വനിച്ചു.ദുഃഖിതനായ മുനി വനം തേടി പല സ്ഥലങ്ങളിലും അലഞ്ഞു; അവസാനം അനന്തരത്തിലേക്ക് എത്തി. പുത്തരിക്കണ്ടം എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്ന കൃഷിയിടത്തിൽ വിശ്രമിക്കുമ്പോൾ, സ്വാമിയാർ ഒരു ദരിദ്ര കർഷകസ്ത്രീ തൻറെ കുഞ്ഞിനെക്കുറിച്ച് ആക്രോശിക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു, "നീ കുറച്ചുകൂടി കരഞ്ഞാൽ, ഞാൻ നിന്നെ അനന്തൻകാട്ടിലേക്ക് എറിഞ്ഞുകളയും". സ്വാമിയാർ അതിനുശേഷം ചാടിയെഴുന്നേറ്റ് അവിടെ എത്തി. അവിടെ അനന്തപത്മനാഭനായി പ്രപഞ്ചത്തിന്റെ പരമോന്നത ഭഗവാൻ പ്രത്യക്ഷപ്പെട്ടു; വില്വമംഗലം സ്വാമിയാർ സമ്പൂർണ്ണ സമർപ്പണത്തിൽ ഭഗവാനെ നൈവേദ്യം അർപ്പിക്കാൻ ആഗ്രഹിച്ച് ചുറ്റും നോക്കി. ചെറിയൊരു ഇളം മാമ്പഴം മാത്രമായിരുന്നു സ്വാമിയാർക്ക് കണ്ടെത്താൻ കഴിഞ്ഞത്. സ്വാമിയാർ അത് പറിച്ച് ഒരു ഒഴിഞ്ഞ തേങ്ങാചിരട്ടയിൽ ഭഗവാന്റെ മുന്നിൽ നൈവേദ്യമായി വച്ചു.
