Andoor Kandan Sree Dharma Sastha Temple (അണ്ടൂർ കണ്ടൻ ശ്രീ ധർമ്മ ശാസ്താ ക്ഷേത്രം) is a prominent Sastha Temple located in southern Kerala. It can be found 13 kilometers to the east of Neyyattinkara in Thiruvananthapuram.
The principal deity of this temple is Kandan Sree Dharma Sastha. This temple is regarded as one of the most unique in Kerala, as it features the deity Sastha facing westward. The name Andoor Kandan Sree Dharma Sastha is derived from the presence of this deity and the temple's location in Andoorkonam. God Ayyappa is revered as the guardian of this area, leading to the deity also being referred to as Andoorvasan and Andoorayan. The temple's history and origins can be traced back to the Tholadichan Temple, situated 750 feet to the east of the current temple.
The principal deity of this temple is God Sree Dharma Sastha. The idol resembles that found at Sabarimala, with the right hand positioned in the Abhaya Mudra, which signifies the fearlessness of a devoted follower who has completely surrendered to the Lord (Saranaagathi). This gesture also represents the divine protection afforded to those who fully entrust themselves to Him. Additionally, this posture is referred to as Chinmudra or Njaana Mudra, symbolizing the union of the individual soul (Aatma) with the Supreme Soul (Paramaatma), as indicated by the index finger touching the base of the thumb. This union occurs after the eradication of the three impurities (asudhi) of ego (aham), desire (kamam), and illusion (maayam), represented by the three fingers extending outward.
The left hand, with all five fingers directed downward, signifies the five elements. He is known as Bhoothanathan, which translates to the Lord who created and governs the evolution of these five elements (Panja Bhootham) that constitute the material world. The five elements include earth (solid), water (liquid), fire (chemical combustion), air (gaseous), and ether (space).
The idol is depicted in a seated position, with the legs slightly elevated, indicating that no one is permitted to sit beside Him. Furthermore, His knees and back are secured with a Yogapatta. Ganapathy, Durga Bhagavathy, Easwara Kala Bhoothathan, Nagaraja, and Nagayakshi are revered sub-deities.
Special rituals include the Villadichan Paattu, which is conducted over a span of 60 days, commencing from the first day of mandalakalam (Vrishchikam 1) and concluding on the final day of the Makaravilakku Mahotsavam (Makaram 1). The ritual culminates with a unique Vazhka song, an event referred to as Vazhka Paadi Kudiyiruthal.
Neeranjana Archana is the most frequently performed archana at this temple, as it is believed that God Sastha embodies Saneeswaran. This ritual takes place on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
The Makaravilakku Mahotsavam is an annual festival celebrated at this temple, coinciding with the natural occurrence of the star (Makara Jyothi) rising in the sky during the evening (Makara Sankrama Sandhya) of January 14. It is believed that on this day, God Ayyappa vanquished the demon Mahishasura and united with the Dharma Sastha Murthy at Sabarimala. Makara Sankrama Sandhya marks the conclusion of Dakshinayana Punyakalam and the commencement of Utharayana Punyakalam.

അണ്ടൂർ കണ്ഠൻ ശ്രീ ധർമ്മശാസ്താ ക്ഷേത്രം തിരുവനന്തപുരം ജില്ലയിലെ നെയ്യാറ്റിൻകരയിൽ നിന്ന് 13 കിലോമീറ്റർ കിഴക്കായി സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. തെക്കൻ കേരളത്തിലെ പ്രശസ്തമായ ശാസ്താ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നായ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം, കണ്ഠൻ ശ്രീ ധർമ്മശാസ്താവിനെ പ്രധാന പ്രതിഷ്ഠയായി സ്വീകരിക്കുന്നു. ശാസ്താദേവൻ പടിഞ്ഞാറോട്ട് ദർശനമുള്ള കേരളത്തിലെ അപൂർവ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നായി ഇത് കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ നിന്ന് 750 അടി കിഴക്കായി സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന തോലടിച്ചൻ ക്ഷേത്രം, ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ ചരിത്രവും ഉത്ഭവവും സംബന്ധിച്ച വിവരങ്ങൾ നൽകുന്നു. ശ്രീ ധർമ്മശാസ്താവിന്റെ വിഗ്രഹം ശബരിമലയിൽ കാണുന്ന രീതിയിലാണ്, വലതുകൈ അഭയ മുദ്രാ ഭാവത്തിൽ പിടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ഈ യോഗനില ചിൻമുദ്ര അല്ലെങ്കിൽ ജ്ഞാനമുദ്ര എന്ന പേരിലും അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു.

ഗണപതി, പ്രതിബന്ധങ്ങൾ നീക്കുന്നതിലും തുടക്കങ്ങളുടെ ദേവനായി ആരാധിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന ഗണപതി ദേവനെ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ എല്ലാ ആചാരങ്ങളുടെയും ചടങ്ങുകളുടെയും ആരംഭത്തിൽ സ്ഥിരമായി ആരാധിക്കുന്നു. പ്രതിഷ്ഠാ വാർഷികത്തോടനുബന്ധിച്ച് അഷ്ട ദ്രവ്യ മഹാഗണപതി ഹോമം നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു.
ദുർഗ്ഗാഭഗവതി, ദേവി എന്നും ശക്തി എന്നും അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ദേവിയുടെ പ്രധാന രൂപമായ ദുർഗ്ഗാഭഗവതിയെ പ്രത്യേക അവസരങ്ങളിൽ ഭഗവതി സേവ ഉൾപ്പെടെയുള്ള പ്രത്യേക പൂജകളിലൂടെ ഇവിടെ ആരാധിക്കുന്നു. എല്ലാ വർഷവും മകരം ഒന്നിന് നൂറുകണക്കിന് സ്ത്രീ ഭക്തർ ദുർഗ്ഗാഭഗവതിക്ക് പൊങ്കാല അർപ്പിക്കുന്നു.
പ്രത്യേക ആചാരങ്ങളും വഴിപാടുകളും: വില്ലടിച്ചൻ പാട്ട്: മണ്ഡലകാലം ആരംഭിച്ച് മകരവിളക്ക് മഹോത്സവത്തിന്റെ അവസാന നാളിൽ 60 ദിവസങ്ങൾക്കുള്ളിൽ ഇത് നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. അവസാന ദിവസം, പ്രത്യേകമായ വാഴ്‌കപ്പാട്ടിന്റെ സാന്നിധ്യത്തിൽ പരിപാടി സമാപിക്കുന്നു.
നീരാഞ്ജന അർച്ചന:
അയ്യപ്പൻ ശനീശ്വരനാണെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ, ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതൽ നീരാഞ്ജന അർച്ചന നടത്തുന്നത് ബുധൻ, ശനി ദിവസങ്ങളിലാണ്.
ജനുവരി 14-ന് വൈകുന്നേരം (മകര സംക്രമ സന്ധ്യ) നക്ഷത്രം (മകരജ്യോതി) ആകാശത്ത് ഉദിക്കുന്ന ഈ പ്രകൃതി പ്രതിഭാസം, ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ വർഷം തോറും ആഘോഷിക്കുന്ന മകരവിളക്ക് മഹോത്സവത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമാണ്. ഈ ദിവസമാണ് അയ്യപ്പൻ മഹിഷാസുരനെ പരാജയപ്പെടുത്തി ശബരിമലയിൽ ധർമ്മ ശാസ്താ മൂർത്തിയിൽ ലയിച്ചതെന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കുന്നു. ദക്ഷിണായന പുണ്യകാലം അവസാനിക്കുകയും ഉത്തരായന പുണ്യകാലം ആരംഭിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.
