തിരുവനന്തപുരം നഗരത്തിൽ നിന്ന് 16 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെ, അരുവിക്കരയിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം ദുർഗ്ഗാദേവിക്ക് സമർപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുകയാണ്. ദേവിയുടെ ദർശനം കിഴക്കോട്ടാണ്. അരുവിക്കര റിസർവോയറിനോട് ചേർന്നുള്ള ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം, അതിനോടു ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടു ഉള്ള റിസർവോയർ, പൂന്തോട്ടം, കാടുകൾ, മലകൾ, അരുവികൾ എന്നിവയാൽ സമ്പന്നമായ ഒരു തീർത്ഥാടന കേന്ദ്രമാണ്.
സ്ത്രീശക്തിയുടെ ദിവ്യരൂപമായ ദുർഗ്ഗാ ദേവി ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ദേവതയാണ്. പുരാതന ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രമെന്ന നിലയിൽ ഇത് ഏറെ പ്രസിദ്ധമാണ്. പാറപ്പുറത്ത് നിർമിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് മുന്നിലെ അരുവിയിൽ വലിയ മത്സ്യങ്ങൾ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു, ഇവക്ക് ഭക്തർ 'മീനൂട്ട്' നടത്തി പൂജിക്കുന്നു.
ഈ മീനൂട്ട് വഴിപാട്, ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ആശീർവാദ ചടങ്ങുകളിൽ ഒന്നാണ്. വിശ്വാസം അനുസരിച്ച്, അരിമ്പാറ, കറുപ്പ്, പാലുണ്ണി തുടങ്ങിയ പ്രശ്നങ്ങൾ മാറുന്നതിന് മീനുകൾക്ക് അരിയും പൂവും സമർപ്പിക്കുന്നു.
