Ayyipillai Asan and his brother Aynipillai Asan were maestros of Malayalam literature who made significant contributions to its development.
Ayyipillai Asan is credited with the classical work Ramakatha Pattu in old Malayalam, while his brother Aynipillai Asan authored Mavarathapattu, another notable literary work.
A small shrine, which does not house a specific idol in the Sreekovil, has been transformed into a memorial honoring these two renowned poets of ancient Kerala. In 1987, it was officially declared a protected monument.

പഴയ മലയാളത്തിലെ ഒരു ക്ലാസിക്കൽ കൃതിയായ രാമകഥ പാട്ട് അയ്യിപ്പിള്ളൈ ആശാന്റെ രചനയായപ്പോൾ, മാവരതപ്പാട്ട് എന്ന മറ്റൊരു കൃതി ആയിണിപ്പിള്ളൈ ആശാന്റേതാണ്. ശ്രീകോവിലിൽ പ്രത്യേക വിഗ്രഹമില്ലാത്ത ഈ ചെറിയ ക്ഷേത്രം, കേരളത്തിലെ ഈ മഹാന്മാരുടെ സ്മാരകമായി രൂപാന്തരപ്പെട്ടു. 1987ൽ, ഈ സ്മാരകം ഔദ്യോഗികമായി സംരക്ഷിത സ്മാരകമായി പ്രഖ്യാപിക്കപ്പെട്ടു.
