The Azhoor Bhagavathy Temple is a site for numerous festivals and religious observances, including Navaratri, during which intricate rituals and cultural performances are held in honor of Goddess Bhagavathy. The Karthika Mahotsavam at Azhoor Bhagavathy Temple, located in Azhoor, Thiruvananthapuram, is a significant celebration that occurs in the month of Meenam, particularly on the auspicious day of Karthika Nal, recognized as the Goddess's birthday.
Devotees participate in the Meena Karthika Mahotsavam with great enthusiasm, offering special prayers and rituals to pay homage to the Goddess. This week-long celebration of Karthika Mahotsavam is characterized by a heightened sense of spirituality and divine blessings. Among the various offerings made by devotees, the Thookkam Nercha, especially the Garudan Thookkam, is regarded as the most important. Devotees believe that by circling the temple while holding onto the Villu, the compassionate Goddess will relieve their hardships. This practice is accompanied by a seven-day fast and continuous prayers, with three distinct forms of Thookkam: Pullaketti Thookkam, where children under five are tied and suspended by elder devotees; Alankara Thookkam, which features the ornate decoration of the Villu; and Ordinary Thookkam.

അഴൂർ ഭഗവതി ക്ഷേത്രം തിരുവനന്തപുരം ജില്ലയിൽ ചിറയിൻകീഴിൽ നിന്ന് 3 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെയുള്ള അഴൂരിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നു. ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം ഭദ്രകാളി ദേവിക്ക് സമർപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു, ഭദ്രകാളിയുടെ സാന്നിധ്യം ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തെ അനുഗ്രഹീതമാക്കുന്നു. 350 വർഷങ്ങൾക്ക് മുമ്പ്, അഴൂരിൽ നിന്ന് 2 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെ പെരുമാതുറ കടൽത്തീരത്ത് ഒരു വ്യക്തി ദേവിയുടെ "തിരുമുടി" കണ്ടു. ആത്മസമർപ്പണത്തിന്റെ മറ്റൊരു രൂപമാണ് കാർത്തിക മീന ഭരണി മഹോസ്തവത്തോടനുബന്ധിച്ച് നടക്കുന്ന ഉരുൾ.
