Cheriya Udeswaram Mahavishnu Temple Palkulangara Thiruvananthapuram

Cheriya Udeswaram Sri MahaVishnu Temple (ചെറിയ ഉദേശ്വരം ശ്രീ മഹാവിഷ്ണു ക്ഷേത്രം (അപ്പൂപ്പൻ കോവിൽ) commonly referred to as Appupan Kovil, is an ancient shrine situated 2 kilometers from the western entrance of Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram. The temple is managed by the Cheriya Udeswaram Sri Maha Vishnu Temple Trust.

It is believed that this temple was constructed by the renowned Travancore ruler Anizham Thirunal Marthanda Varma in the 18th century to facilitate the participation of Lord Padmanabhaswamy in the Arattu ceremony at Shangumukham beach during the Alpasi Festival, which typically occurs in the Thulam month (October - November). The temple showcases traditional Kerala architecture, featuring captivating sculptures of the Dashavatara adorning the exterior of the Nalambalam. The Thiru: Ulsavam is celebrated during the Alpashi month, coinciding with the Thulam month, and is marked by grand festivities. The temple also honors several sub-deities, including Sivan, Ganapati, Dharma Sashtha, Appuppan, and Nagaraja.

തുലാമാസത്തിലെ (ഒക്ടോബർ- നവംബർ) അൽപശി ഉത്സവ സമയത്ത്, പത്മനാഭസ്വാമിയെ ശംഖുമുഖം കടലിലെ ആറാട്ടിന് അനുഗമിക്കുന്നതിനായി പതിനെട്ടാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിൽ പ്രശസ്ത തിരുവിതാംകൂർ അനിഴം തിരുനാൾ മാർത്താണ്ഡ വർമ്മ ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം നിർമ്മിച്ചതായി വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ നാലമ്പലത്തിന് പുറത്ത് ദശാവതാരത്തിന്റെ ശിൽപങ്ങളോടുകൂടിയ കേരളത്തിലെ പരമ്പരാഗത ക്ഷേത്ര വാസ്തുവിദ്യ കാണാം. അടുത്തകാലത്ത്, ക്ഷേത്ര പുനരുദ്ധാരണത്തിന് ശേഷം, ക്ഷേത്രം വളരെ ആകർഷകമായി മാറിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ചെറിയ ഉദേശ്വരം ശ്രീ മഹാവിഷ്ണു ക്ഷേത്ര ട്രസ്റ്റ്.
