Erayamcode Sri Mahavishnu Temple, renowned for its ancient grandeur and opulence, is located in the village of Erayancode within the Aruvikkara Panchayath of Thiruvananthapuram District, Kerala. The site of the temple holds significant cultural and spiritual value, as the sacred Karamana River flows through this village. This river originates from the Agasthya Hills, which are associated with the revered South Indian sage Agasthya. The hills are rich in a variety of medicinal plants and trees. The river meanders eastward from its source to the sea, passing through the village, while the temple itself is oriented towards the east, situated on the left bank of the river.
The idol of Lord Mahavishnu is crafted from pure black stone, featuring four arms that hold a horn, a chakra, and a lotus, with one hand resting on the hip. The sacred symbol 'Srivalsa' is intricately carved on the chest of the idol. Historical records, including inscriptions on the stone steps in the Malayanma language, were translated into Malayalam by experts at the request of the temple committee in 1963. These records indicate that the idol was consecrated in the sanctum on March 7, AD 1185.
A 'devaprasnam' conducted by a renowned Tantrik astrologer revealed that the temple was established over 800 years ago, and the divine idol predates the temple itself. The 'devaprasnam' also identified sub-deities such as Ganapathi, Sastha, Nagar, and Yogeeswara as the builders of the temple.

തിരുവനന്തപുരം ജില്ലയിലെ അരുവിക്കര പഞ്ചായത്തിലെ ഇറയാംകോട് എന്ന ഗ്രാമത്തിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന ശ്രീ മഹാവിഷ്ണുക്ഷേത്രം, അതിന്റെ പുരാതനതയും പ്രശസ്തിയും കൊണ്ട് ശ്രദ്ധേയമാണ്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ സ്ഥലം തന്നെ വലിയ പ്രാധാന്യമർഹിക്കുന്നു. പണ്ടുകാലത്ത് അഗസ്ത്യമുനി തപസ്സുചെയ്തിരുന്ന അഗസ്ത്യപർവ്വതത്തിൽ നിന്നുള്ള പുണ്യനദിയായ കരമനയാർ, വിവിധ ഔഷധസസ്യങ്ങളാൽ സമൃദ്ധമായ വനം ചുറ്റപ്പെട്ട്, ഇറയാംകോട് ഗ്രാമത്തിലൂടെ ഒഴുകി കടലിൽ പതിക്കുന്നു. ഈ നദിയുടെ ഉത്ഭവം മുതൽ കടലിൽ സംഗമിക്കുന്നതുവരെ, ഈ ഗ്രാമത്തിൽ മാത്രം കിഴക്കോട്ടു ഒഴുകുന്നുണ്ട്. കരമനയാർ നദിക്കരയുടെ കിഴക്കുവശത്താണ് ക്ഷേത്രം സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്. ക്ഷേത്രം മഹാവിഷ്ണുവിന് സമർപ്പിതമാണ്. മുകളിലെ വലത് കൈയിൽ ചക്രവും, ഇടത് കൈയിൽ ശംഖും, താഴെ വലത് കൈയിൽ താമരപ്പൂവും, ഇടത് കൈയിൽ കടീബന്ധമായി (അരക്കെട്ടിൽ ഉറപ്പിച്ച്) നിൽക്കുന്ന ചതുര്‍ബാഹുവായ ശ്രീ മഹാവിഷ്ണുദേവന്റെ കൃഷ്ണശിലാവിഗ്രഹമാണ് പ്രതിഷ്ഠ. ഇറയാംകോട് ശ്രീ മഹാവിഷ്ണു ക്ഷേത്രം ട്രസ്റ്റാണ് ഭരണകാര്യങ്ങൾ നടത്തുന്നത്.
വലതുമാറില്‍ ശ്രീവത്സം എന്ന മുദ്ര ഈ വിഗ്രഹത്തിന്‍റെ മറ്റൊരു പ്രത്യേകതയാണ്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ സോപാനത്തിന്‍റെ വലതുഭാഗത്ത് മലയാണ്മ ഭാഷയില്‍ കൊത്തിയിരിക്കുന്ന ലിപി 1963ല്‍ അന്നത്തെ ക്ഷേത്രസമിതി വിവര്‍ത്തനം ചെയ്തതിന്റെ അടിസ്ഥാനത്തില്‍ എ.ഡി. 1185 മാര്‍ച്ച് 7ന് ക്ഷേത്രത്തില്‍ പ്രതിഷ്ഠനടന്നതായി തെളിവുകള്‍ ലഭ്യമാണ്. 1990ല്‍ ക്ഷേത്രത്തില്‍ ജ്യോതിഷനും തന്ത്രിമുഖ്യനുമായ ഒരു നമ്പൂതിരിയെക്കൊണ്ട് താന്ത്രികവിധിപ്രകാരം നടത്തിയ ദേവപ്രശ്നത്തില്‍ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് 800 വര്‍ഷത്തിലേറെ പഴക്കമുണ്ടെന്നും, ക്ഷേത്രവിഗ്രഹത്തിന് അതിലേറെ പഴക്കമുണ്ടെന്നും തെളിഞ്ഞു. ക്ഷേത്രത്തില്‍ ഗണപതി, ശാസ്താവ്, നാഗര്‍, ദേവി എന്നിവരുടെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠകളും, ക്ഷേത്രോല്പത്തിക്ക് കാരണമായ ആ മഹത് വ്യക്തിക്ക് യോഗീശ്വരസ്ഥാനവും വേണമെന്ന വിഷയത്തില്‍ 1995ല്‍ ഉപദേവനായി പ്രതിഷ്ഠിക്കപ്പെട്ടു.
