The shrine of Sree Irumkulangara Durga Bhagavathi is recognized as one of the oldest temples in Kerala. Situated alongside two ponds, the temple derives its name from the local terminology: "irum" signifies two, while "kulam" denotes pond. It is thought that this temple shares a historical connection with the renowned Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple, a prominent site in Thiruvananthapuram. In contrast to other Durga devi temples, certain rituals such as Thottampaattu and Ottam are not permitted here.
The use of red flowers, with the exception of thetti, is prohibited, while other varieties like tulsi, jasmine, lotus, and Nandyarvattom are utilized. The principal deity of this temple is Goddess Durga. A significant feature of the temple is the manifestation of the deity as Durgabhagavathi, an incarnation of Adi Parasakthi. The star associated with the deity is Karthika.
Numerous upadevathas are located near the temple, which has recently undergone renovations in accordance with the Deva Prashnam conducted by skilled astrologers.The primary upadevathas present on the grounds include Ganesha, Nagaraja, Brahm Rakshas, Bhairava Moorthy, Madan Thampuran, and Navagraha.
