Ittakaveli Mudippura Sree Neelakeshi Amma Temple is located in the sacred area of Ittakaveli, close to Kulasekharam in the Kanyakumari district. It is situated 18 kilometers from Parasala.
Ittakaveli Mudipura Sree Neelakesiamma Temple serves as a confluence of faith, legend, and narrative. Originally situated in Travancore, the temple's location changed with the formation of the state of Kerala. During this transition, four taluks from Travancore—Thovalam, Agastiswaram, Kalkulam, and Valavankot—along with a portion of Chenkotta taluk, were incorporated into the Madras state. Meanwhile, the Malabar district and Kasaragod taluk from southern Karnataka were integrated into the remaining Travancore-Cochin state.
Consequently, Kanyakumari district was ceded to Kerala, and the Malabar region, with the exception of Goodalur, was also absorbed into Kerala. Thus, the historic Ittakaveli Mudipura Sree Neelakesiamma Temple is now situated in Kanyakumari district.
This temple is linked to the Ittakaveli Panangode family and has connections to Venganooramma in Tamil Nadu. Additionally, similar to the aforementioned locations, there are also Panangod, Muttakadu, and Nilakeshimudipura in this area.
The temple is believed to be over 700 years old and has been a site of worship for individuals from marginalized communities throughout this period. This aspect is quite unique and may not be found in other locations. Additionally, it is uncommon to witness individuals from nine different castes participating in festival events with such a spirit of unity. The administrative responsibilities are managed by the Shree Neelakeshiamma Seva Trust. The Ammayirakka Mahotsavam, an annual festival lasting nine days, is celebrated during the month of Meenam and features a variety of artistic performances.

ഇട്ടകവേലി ശ്രീ നീലകേശി അമ്മ മുടിപ്പുര ദേവീ ക്ഷേത്രം കന്യാകുമാരി ജില്ലയിലെ കുലശേഖരത്തിനു സമീപമുള്ള പുണ്യമായ ഇട്ടകവേലി എന്ന സ്ഥലത്താണ് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്. പാറശാലയിൽ നിന്നും 18 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെയാണ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം.
വിശ്വാസം, ഇതിഹാസം, കഥകൾ എന്നിവയുടെ സമന്വയം കാണുന്ന ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് ഇട്ടകവേലി മുടിപ്പുര ശ്രീ നീലകേശി അമ്മ ക്ഷേത്രം. പഴയകാലത്ത് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം തിരുവിതാംകൂറിൽ സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുകയായിരുന്നു. കേരള സംസ്ഥാനത്തിന്റെ രൂപീകരണ സമയത്ത്, തിരുവിതാംകൂറിലെ തോവാളം, അഗസ്‌തീശ്വരം, കൽക്കുളം, വിളവങ്കോട് എന്നീ നാലു താലൂക്കുകളും ചെങ്കോട്ടത്താലൂക്കിന്റെ ഒരു ഭാഗവും മദിരാശി സംസ്ഥാനത്തോടു ചേർത്തു. ശേഷിച്ച തിരുവിതാംകൂർ - കൊച്ചി സംസ്ഥാനത്തോടു മലബാർ ജില്ലയും തെക്കൻ കർണാടകത്തിലെ കാസർകോടു താലൂക്കും ചേർക്കപ്പെട്ടു. ഇതിന്റെ ഫലമായി കന്യാകുമാരി ജില്ല കേരളത്തിൽ നിന്ന് നഷ്ടമായി.
ഈ ക്ഷേത്രം ഏകദേശം 700 വർഷങ്ങൾക്ക് മുൻപുള്ള പഴക്കമുള്ളതാണ്, ഇവിടെ നിന്ന് ആരംഭിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുള്ള കാലം മുതൽ പിന്നോക്ക സമുദായത്തിലെ ആളുകൾ പൂജകൾ നടത്തിവരുന്നുണ്ട്. ഇത് മറ്റിടങ്ങളിൽ കാണാൻ സാധിക്കാത്ത ഒരു പ്രത്യേകതയാണ്. കൂടാതെ, ഉത്സവ ചടങ്ങുകളിൽ 9 ജാതികളിൽപ്പെട്ട ആളുകൾ സമത്വത്തോടെ പങ്കുചേരുന്നത് ഒരു അപൂർവ്വമായ കാഴ്ചയാണ്. ശ്രീ നീലകേശിയമ്മ സേവാ ട്രസ്റ്റ് ഈ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ ഭരണകാര്യങ്ങൾ കൈകാര്യം ചെയ്യുന്നു.
ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ ഐതിഹ്യം:
പണ്ടുകാലത്ത് ഇടകവേലിയിലെ ഒരു നായർ തറവാട്ടിലെ പെൺകുട്ടി പറയ സമുദായത്തിലെ ഒരു വീട്ടിൽ തീ കൊണ്ടുവരാൻ പോയി. തീ കൊണ്ടുവരുമ്പോൾ കുട്ടിയുടെ കൈ പൊള്ളലേറ്റു.
ഇത് കണ്ടു പറയ സമുദായക്കാരിയായ കൂട്ടുകാരി ഓടിവന്നു, പൊള്ളിയ കൈ വായോടു ചേർത്ത് പിടിച്ച് അവളെ ആശ്വസിപ്പിച്ചു. ഒടുവിൽ അയൽക്കാരിയായ സ്നേഹിത അവളെ ഭക്ഷണവും നൽകി യാത്രയാക്കുകയായിരുന്നു.ഒമ്പത് ദിവസം നീണ്ടുനിൽക്കുന്ന വാർഷിക ഉത്സവമായ അമ്മയിറക്ക മഹോത്സവം മീനമാസത്തിൽ വിവിധ കലാപരിപാടികളോടുകൂടി ആഘോഷമായി നടത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. ഈ മഹോത്സവത്തോടനുബന്ധിച്ചുള്ള തൂക്കവും ഏറെ പ്രശസ്തമാണ്. വഴിപാടിനായി ആയിരക്കണക്കിന് ഭക്തർ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ എത്തിച്ചേരുന്നു.
